The Data Development Insights & Strategy team is looking for a Principal Business Data Scientist with the opportunity and expectation to act as a data domain expert to enable successful business transformation. In this hands-on role, you’ll guide analytical techniques to build solutions that empower thousands of associates to drive adoption of Red Hat products and services. Key areas for data informed execution include consumption forecasting, usage trends, recommendations from opportunities and risk and GTM analytics. You will be in frequent interaction with cross functional teams across Sales, Marketing, Finance, product and IT across the globe. This will provide you with the opportunity to sharpen the application of quantitative analysis skills and to develop well rounded business savvy through working on impactful and transformational initiatives. Your success depends on your ability to collaborate with and influence your stakeholders to take action on intelligence and recommendations that you provide in this role. What you will do

• Develop analytical solutions related to consumption forecasting, usage trends, recommendations from opportunities or risk and GTM analytics

• Provide analytical support and consultation for key sales, finance and business leadership teams

• Identify net new opportunities and areas of sub optimization and work cross functionally to design and implement solutions   

• Compile, analyze, and interpret diverse and complex data sets

• Learn, understand, and master Red Hat data sources to enable novel analysis of hybrid cloud

What you will bring

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a quantitative field; advanced analytics degree preferred

• 2+ years of relevant experience in an analytics or data science role

• Deep understanding and experience with SQL

• Excellent programming skills using Python (preferred) or R

• Achieve greatness through continuous iterations

• Solid relationship management skills

• Solid initiative and ability to manage multiple projects

• Excellent critical problem-solving skills

• Motivated with sense of personal accountability

• Coachable, detail-oriented team player who is focused and diligent on guiding and delivering results

• Demonstrated customer service skills, interpersonal and time management skills in a fast-paced environment

• Experience with the following is considered a plus:

  • Jupyter Notebooks or RStudio

  • Salesforce and reporting in SalesForce

  • Development of data using R Shiny or Python Flask / Plotly

  • Relational database systems like Redshift, Postgres, BigQuery, etc.

  • Data pipeline automation

  • Experience with software and technology companies
