About the role

The Assistant AD for Administration/Executive Asst. to the VP for Athletics serves a key role in carrying out the day-to-day functions of the athletics department in the areas of human resource management, strategic planning, event planning and assisting the VP with scheduling, travel, budget, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Strategic planning – Gather quarterly KPI information and provide to VP for Athletics and senior staff. 

Communicate department KPI information to the strategic planning team. 

Review Best Christian Workplace outcomes with athletics departments 

Work with senior staff on BCW unit plans 

Assist VP for Athletics in building department BCW plan 

Serve as point person for HR administration under Senior Associate AD for Personnel 

Manage personnel functions, including onboarding of employees, terminations, etc. 

Lead the employee care program for athletics. 

Organize annual senior staff retreat, three annual department staff meetings, and other staff functions. 

Organize meeting and manage calendar for the VP for Athletics 

Arrange travel and reconcile P-card for VP for Athletics 

Handle department communications to staff and internal departments 

Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner. 

Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission Training Champions for Christ. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES    

Supervise Athletics Department Receptionist and two student workers but assist with the hiring of all student workers. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS 

Education and Experience  

 

Five years of administrative experience is needed and a background in Athletics or a related field is preferred. A bachelor’s degree is required. 

  

 

ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES ESSENTIAL TO THE FUNCTION OF THE JOB 

Communication and Comprehension 

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information. 

  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner. 

  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University. 

  • Strong organizational skills. 

  • Computer skills (if required). 

Problem Solving 

  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. 

Physical and Sensory Abilities 

  • May be required to travel (If required to travel, list areas of travel such as local, campus, state, etc.) 

  • May be required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
