Job Description
The Senior Accountant supports the bank’s corporate, institutional, and broker-dealer businesses by managing and analyzing complex balance sheet and income activities. This role is responsible for preparing or reviewing and approving journal entries, regulatory reporting, financial statements and month-end close documentation submitted by team members and delivering impactful contributions for operational efficiency. In addition, the individual will respond to inquiries from management, external auditors and regulatory authorities. The ideal candidate will be able to learn and take on challenges in a fast-paced environment. The position requires a high degree of autonomy and self-direction, with the ability to take initiative and deliver results independently.Key Responsibilities
- Prepares or reviews and approves journal entries and backup documentation submitted by peers.
- Monitors the integrity of the balance sheet and ensures completeness and accuracy.
- Identify and explain variance drivers; partner with Business Lines to understand the ebbs and flows of the broker-dealer business.
- Assists in the drafting of process narrative, control documentation, and supporting procedures. Ensure accounting activities align with established policies, standards, and control expectations.
- Collaborate with Corporate Accounting, Treasury, and Reporting partners to validate data quality and resolve issues. Communicate status, risks, and issues clearly and escalate appropriately when needed.
- Mentor staff, train new hires, introduce processes and templates to gain efficiencies
- Assist with audits by internal and external auditors
- Prepares and/or reviews month end close files and supporting documents
- Prepares/reviews monthly and quarterly financial statements
- Prepares/reviews daily/monthly/quarterly regulatory reporting including 15c3-1 and 15c3-3.
- Obtain Series 27 license within 120 days of employment
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent work experience
- Eight or more years of experience in financial accounting activitiesPreferred Skills/Experience
- Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applications
- Considerable knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulations
- Considerable knowledge of accounting, reporting, and analysis
- Ability to identify and resolve exceptions and to analyze data
- CPA or CMA preferred
The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.
