Reporting to the Safety Health and Environmental Manager, the Senior Safety Specialist is responsible for developing and continually improving the plant safety management system and culture. 

What you will do: 

• Serve as task force leader for development and implementation of safety standards to continuously improve performance 

• Work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Process Engineering, and Project Engineering to mitigate occupational safety risk 

• Mentor colleagues within the SH&E team and across the plant on occupational safety best practices  

• Support capital project planning and execution to ensure design meets safety standards  

• Lead safety incident management processes including incident classification, investigations, corrective actions, and sharing lessons learned across the plant 

• Take ownership of projects and team safety goals while creating a collaborative environment for co-workers and contractors 

• Serve as a liaison with external regulatory agencies and support regulatory inspections 

• Familiarity with high-risk work hazard control programs including Hot Work, Confined Space, Line Break, Energy Isolation, Cranes, Working at Height, and Excavation  

 

What you will bring: 

• Bachelor of Science in related field preferred  

• 8 years of related experience working in manufacturing, oil and gas, mining, or chemicals sector may be considered in lieu of degree 

• Certified Safety Professional designation or equivalent preferred

• Familiar with continual improvement processes and risk-based safety prioritization (e.g. ISO 45001)  

• ​​Extensive OSHA Regulatory Knowledge (General Industry, Construction, etc.)
