EpiC Project Intern

FHI 360 has an exciting internship opportunity for a student interested in growing their skills within the international development sector.  Under close supervision, an Intern will perform entry level professional duties which will provide the opportunity for professional training in various functional areas throughout the organization. Internship assignments serve to offer practical experience and broad exposure to a global nonprofit development organization.

Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) is an eight-year (2019-2027) global project funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). EpiC is dedicated to achieving and maintaining HIV epidemic control and the project provides strategic technical assistance (TA) and direct service delivery (DSD) to break through barriers to 95-95-95 and promote self-reliant management of national HIV programs by improving HIV case-finding, prevention, and treatment programming. EpiC is dedicated to achieving and maintaining HIV epidemic control among at-risk adult men, women, priority populations and key populations and the project is led by FHI 360 with core partners Population Services International (PSI), Palladium Group, and Right to Care. While originally designed as a HIV program, EpiC has been modified to accept COVID-19 funding to prevent, prepare for, respond to and bolster health systems to address COVID-19 and reemergence. Currently, EpiC and its consortium members are implementing HIV activities in 30+ countries and COVID-19 activities in 45+ countries.

Anticipated Duration:

Late Spring through early Fall 2024, ideally with a mid to late April 2024 start at full-time hours through early October 2024.

Hours: Full time, 30-40 hours per week during EST business hours

Pay Rate: $18.00/hour (undergraduate) / $23.00/hour (masters)

Location: We would prefer having someone who is based in Washington, DC and available to go to the FHI 360 DC office 1 day per week on Wednesdays, but a completely remote internship can also be discussed

• Understanding of how a global HIV project spanning approximately 30+ countries and COVID-19 activities in 45+ countries operates and adapts.

Anticipated Project(s) and Assignment Details:

The intern may contribute to various team or project activities under the direction of their supervisor in the following ways: 

• Design, implement, and coordinate specific program activities as assigned by supervisor for a portfolio of countries.
• Coordinate reviews and editing to ensure high quality program deliverables, including quarterly reports, workplans, and subaward documents.
• Organize and participate in team meetings and country calls, taking the lead for documenting key discussion points and action items.
• Work with program backstop(s) to track completion of action items resulting from calls.
• Work with program team and technical team to engage consultants and staff as needed to support program implementation. Work with program team to prepare consultant agreements; lead on processing and tracking payments in Costpoint.
• Support program teams in development of subawards with local partners for service delivery at country level.
• Support program teams in subaward monitoring and tracking.

Qualifications and Competencies:

• Currently enrolled in a degree program at a college or university in a related field of study or within one year of graduation date: Communications, Education, Health, Behavioral, Life/Social Sciences, International Development, or Human Development. Student currently enrolled in a graduate program preferred.
• Demonstrated interest in related subject area through studies, work experience, and/or personal travel
• Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas
• Strong writing and research skills
• Articulate, professional, and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner
• Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English ; some knowledge of French required
