The Project Handler II will independently manage execution and timely completion of projects involving energy and performance testing for major appliances by analyzing project scope, determining project specifications, establishing test programs for product investigations, and preparing reports for clients. May exercise Project Handler Signature Authority as assigned as Project Handler of record responsible for opening, maintenance, completion, and closing of assigned new work engineering projects.
This role is ON-SITE, employees are required to be in office 5 days a week, based in Newton, IA
The Project Handler II will independently manage execution and timely completion of projects involving energy and performance testing for major appliances by analyzing project scope, determining project specifications, establishing test programs for product investigations, and preparing reports for clients. May exercise Project Handler Signature Authority as assigned as Project Handler of record responsible for opening, maintenance, completion, and closing of assigned new work engineering projects.
- Conducts performance and energy efficiency testing on major appliances.
- Leads projects and oversees product categories.
- Determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and determines project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction. Projects may include travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites.
- Initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services, discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, convey project cost, and negotiate completion date and sample requirements, as directed. Follows up on contacts from clients, as directed. Assists in addressing client concerns and resolving client issues. Provides technical assistance to clients in reference to product inspection and follow-up services.
- Establishes appropriate test programs by reviewing files and manufacturer's information, examining samples, and applying test protocols. Becomes familiar with applicable standards, company manuals and appropriate technical literature. Examines samples for compliances with industry standards and notifies client of any areas in which the product is not in compliance or of any changes in project scope or specifications.
- Coordinates laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions, scheduling and reviewing work of team members, and establishing completion dates. Coordinates administrative aspects of project management. Serves as Project Handler of record as assigned.
- Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports.
- Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
- Trains staff in test setups and test methods. Initiates recommendations for new equipment designs and recommends solutions to observed test problems.
- Operates various appliances, personal computer, and special laboratory equipment. Performs routine maintenance of designated test equipment and laboratory area.
- Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct, and follow all physical and digital security practices.
- Performs other duties as directed.
Associate's degree in science, Technology, Engineering or related discipline plus two to five years of work experience.
- Strong ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects at once is essential
- Exceptional attention to detail is essential
- Strong organizational and written/verbal communication skills
- Ability to analyze data/numbers
- Strong Computer Skills
