Vice President, Software Engineering

Description

Scentsy is looking for a Vice President of Software Engineering to oversee the Software Engineering teams that produce high-performing, best-in-class digital platforms for our Consultants, customers, and business partners. A successful VP will have a well-rounded combination of technical depth, strategic vision, people management skills, and a strong passion for having fun solving complex technical problems. 

The VP reports directly to the Chief Sales Officer (CSO) and will lead and execute Scentsy’s technology product vision through an organization of 50-60 engineers across 8-10 product teams empowered to solve customer problems in ways that work for the business. The teams consist of Software Development, DevOps, SDETs, Architects, and Systems Analysts. The VP will oversee an engineering organization with the assistance of a management staff of 3-5 software managers. The ideal candidate will have experience in cloud platforms, eCommerce, R&D, and innovation, demonstrated by a proven history of driving complex software projects and enhancing product offerings in global technology environments. This candidate will also have experience leading monolith to microservice transitions while delivering for the business.

What You'll Do:

• Define and execute a forward-thinking software development strategy and vision that aligns with Scentsy’s growth and innovation goals
• Cultivate and evangelize an agile mindset across the IT department and others
• Rapidly implement and deploy enterp¬rise custom-developed software and integrated off-the-shelf platforms to support global e-commerce, Consultant/distributor business portals, corporate operations platforms, internal and external APIs, and 3rd party integrations  
• Lead and scale large, multi-tiered software development teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and high performance
• Drive AWS cloud adoption, migration, and optimization to support scalable, resilient global eCommerce operations and enterprise platforms.
• Strive for best-in-class in the delivery of leading-edge applications and data ecosystems by staffing, organizing, and leveraging experienced technology teams while collaborating with trusted business partners 
• Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to enhance customer experience, operational efficiency, and software quality
• Oversee the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of scalable, secure, and reliable enterprise software solutions, ensuring best practices in CI/CD, Agile, and modern SDLC methodologies
• Successfully build world-class technology teams and products that align with long-term vision and strategy while leading within a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
• Collaborate with executives, Technical Product Managers (TPMs), and cross-functional teams to align technology initiatives with business objectives and customer needs
• Coordinate and execute personnel responsibilities that include supervision, creating avenues for training and career development, performance management, and compensation management
• Strategically manage project prioritization, resource allocation, and risk mitigation to maximize company value and operational efficiency
• Oversee enterprise platforms supporting $400M+ in online transactions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Manage staff by selecting, orientating, training, coaching, counseling, mentoring, and developing personal growth opportunities for employees
• Perform other duties as assigned to support business and technology objectives

We're Looking For:

• 14 years of direct experience with designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise software projects using agile methodologies
• 10 years leading large technical teams with multiple layers of management, including several years as a Director of Software Engineering or Development
• 5 years experience in AWS, including experience in EC2, Lambda, S3, Glue, EFS, RDS, VPC etc.
• Deep expertise in high-traffic, custom-built eCommerce platforms operating at an international scale
• Strong understanding of Product Management methodologies and the ability to work closely with TPMs to align technology with business strategy
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a closely related field or equivalent work experience
• Master’s degree preferred
• Demonstrated ability to create and coach an organization of teams empowered to solve problems in ways that customers love
• Strong management skills with the ability to motivate, stimulate, and inspire employees to maximize their efforts in productivity and quality
