Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you’ll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.
About the Position
As an Associate Project Planner in Capital Project Planning, you will be responsible for the development of construction plans for our Transmission Line and Substation departments. You will work closely with the team on all aspects of planning complex construction jobs and will develop the sequencing of construction work that fits the specific project needs. You will be responsible for overseeing the construction planning of multiple projects and communicating with project team leaders about project details.
This is a hybrid role with occasional travel to different National Grid worksites.
What You’ll Do
- Assist in the reviewing Transmission and Substation Line design drawings and provide comments to engineering. Must be able to develop detailed construction sequence based on the design criteria. Must be able to provide construction input to the design team to identify potential construction issues such as the need for temporary facilities.
- Attend site meetings and participate with project team to evaluate different engineering solutions, construction strategies, and project delivery strategies to deliver the project safely and efficiently.
- Develop work plans that are aligned with safety standards, policies, and processes to ensure that the execution of the work plans will promote a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with other groups to ensure system reliability, safety, and efficiency is demonstrated during large scale projects.
- Work in partnership with project managers, materials management, control centers, project estimators, resource planners, legal, real estate and permitting groups for any challenges that are presented in project execution along rights of ways and company owned property where new or existing facilities could be developed.
- Demonstrate safety leadership during all site meetings and project discussions. Lead by example and ensure safety is incorporated into all aspects of the project and the daily job.
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related field from an accredited institution
- Graduated between May 2024 and June 2025
- Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 2, 2025 or July 7, 2025
- Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy
- Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization)
