Business Counselor (Hybrid/Telework Possible)

Definition of Class

This position provides counseling and advising to business clients with specific needs. Incumbent travels to conduct/present a variety of training seminars and may be required to perform occasional overnight travel. Work includes preparing reports and forms; researching client’s needs; and securing seminar locations and frequently exercises discretion and independent judgment.

Examples of Work Performed

• Provide targeted business counseling to disadvantaged small businesses, focusing on improving their operational success and loan application credibility.
• Develop and deliver specialized training programs on financial management, loan application processes, and business compliance for disadvantaged businesses.
• Guide small businesses through loan preparation, ensuring comprehensive and compliant loan proposals.
• Coordinate outreach efforts to engage disadvantaged communities through workshops, seminars, and events promoting the SSBCI program.
• Collaborate with external agencies and financial institutions to build a support network for SSBCI clients.
• Monitor and report program outcomes, analyzing data to assess effectiveness and recommend improvements.
• Stay informed on relevant regulations, sharing updates with clients and staff to ensure compliance.
• Advocate for clients with financial institutions to address their needs during the loan application process.
• Create and manage outreach materials that clearly communicate the benefits of the SSBCI program to disadvantaged business owners.
• Provide internal training on SSBCI Technical Assistance best practices to ensure consistent client support within the MSBDCN.

Essential Functions

2. Plans and conducts training seminars for clients.   
3. Prepares a variety of forms and other documentation.  

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

 

AND

 

Licensure:
Incumbent must possess a valid Driver’s License.
