About the role

Description

The iSchool Communications team leads all brand engagement and communication for the school including oversight of the website, social media management, email outreach to constituents and all marketing/promotions efforts.
The Communications Student Assistant will play a central role in iSchool storytelling efforts, both written and multi-media.

This position will generally work 10-15 hours per week during winter and spring quarters and has a possibility of extension through summer quarter and/or the following academic year, depending on performance and graduation plans.

Responsibilities will include the following duties:

  •  Writing/editing
  • Social media content production and management (Instagram, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Facebook and TikTok), including video elements
  • Conducting interviews with students, faculty, alumni
  • Website content updates & management
  • Other duties as assigned

This role will be a valued member of a dynamic, collaborative team and will have the opportunity to contribute to Information School communication and storytelling efforts in a myriad of ways.
Assistants have the opportunity to initiate and lead projects and work closely with the full Communications team.
Occasional evening and weekend event attendance will be required.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

·         Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of Washington.

·         Exceptional written and verbal communication skills (writing samples required).

·         Highly organized, punctual, and reliable with a strong attention to detail.

·         Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

·         Capable of managing multiple tasks and prioritizing effectively.

·         Eager to learn and adapt to new responsibilities and challenges.

Desired Qualifications
Given the range of work performed by the Communications team, any number of skills can be an asset to the team and experience in any of the following is welcome:

 

·         Prior experience writing in journalistic style and/or for a publication preferred (work samples/portfolio welcome)

·         Prior experience developing public-facing social media content, including video elements (work samples/portfolio welcome)

·         Photography/photo editing experience

·         Video production and editing skills

·         Prior project management experience

·         Experience with Wordpress and/or Drupal

·         Experience with Canva and/or graphic design skills

 

Application Instructions

Compensation:$21.33 – 22.83 per hour
Anticipated Start Date: 01/05/2026
End Date: 06/15/2026, with the potential to extend
