Senior Principal, Analyst - Research and Development Technology (Remote, North America East Coast/Central)

About the role:
As a Senior Principal Analyst aligned with the Research & Development practice, you will deliver advice and thought leadership in product development through published research, conversations with clients (inquiry), teleconferences, and client meetings. You’ll bring Gartner’s research and tools to life across abroad range of world-class clients. You will ask insightful questions to diagnose the causes of client challenges and recommend the best course of action.
What you will do:
- Engage senior-level Heads of Research & Development by building relationships, establishing credibility, conducting substantive content discussions, diagnosing needs, solving problems, and identifying relevant resources.
- Respond to client questions and deliver high quality actionable advice through a variety of media.
- Advise R&D leaders on new product development practices, such as design efficiency, supplier qualification, product development processes, and testing and prototyping.
- Write high quality, clear, actionable advisory research documents focused on the tools, solutions and technologies that can help R&D leaders boost their product development efficiency.
- Researching, writing, and advising on digital transformation and the changing vendor landscape for product development and design solutions (like CAD, PLM and PPM).
- Actively shape the direction of ongoing research and product creation projects; participate in and provide feedback during the research process.
- Partner with sales and service delivery partners to increase account growth, retention and engagement.
What you will need:
- Bachelor's degree minimum
- 8-10 years experience in R&D and/or new product development, with at least 3 years experience in leading product development projects.
- Familiarity with CAD software, Product Lifecycle Management software and other simulation and design technologies and the vendors in those spaces.
- Experience in product development and design for manufacturing intensive industries, like industrial manufacturing, aerospace & defense, chemicals, food and beverage.
- Strong analytical skills, ability to apply conceptual models, recognize patterns, and draw conclusions.
- Demonstrate executive presence; can immediately establish credibility with executives and additional stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills: ability to work under tight deadlines and produce high quality deliverables
- Demonstrate excellence in research and writing ability
- Strong written and verbal proficiency, analytical and presentation skills; ability to engage clients and respond effectively to questions
- Proficient in analyzing and synthesizing data; can effectively apply patterns and frameworks while drawing and defending conclusions to client challenges
- Strong communicator who is able to explain complex concepts concisely and simply
- Subject matter expert comfortable presenting at large and small-scale speaking engagements
- Strong business and financial acumen
- Ability to work independently, while also being intrinsically motivated to collaborate across teams and support the workflow of others, in a multicultural global team
- Learning agile and adept with navigating highly matrixed environments
- Ability to represent Gartner's research methodology and strategies effectively at all levels
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% (where applicable)
