Applicant must have the ability to work well with athletes, parents, and other coaches.  The coach will be expected to continue the growth of the team and must have the interest and skill to develop youth athletes into top competitors and/or lifelong swimmers.  Under the direction of the Aquatics Manager and the Head Coach, the Assistant Swim Coach will help manage the swim team in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth by USA Swimming.

Examples of duties

Assist the Head Coach.
 
Assist in the dry-land training program.
 
Teach all swimmers proper stroke technique and reinforce the correct stroke during practice.
 
Must be able to attend afternoon practices, Saturday morning practices, as well as swim meets throughout the season.
 
Adhere to the coaching uniform at all times during practice & meets.
 
Maintain a professional and responsible attitude and demeanor at all times, which ensures that all members of the team have an enjoyable and successful experience.
 
Use of positive reinforcement, goal setting, team identity and motivational techniques to assist swimmers in meeting their personal goals and potential.
 
Supervise practice sessions, arriving ahead of time and leaving only after all team activities have commenced.
 
It is expected that the coach will inform the Aquatics Manager and Head Coach of any meets that he/she will be unable to attend in order to enable for alternative arrangements to be made.
 
Work with the Aquatics Manager to keep swimmers and parents informed of schedule changes as well as any pertinent information.
 
Attend all meets where SAC team members are participating.
 
Provide regular and consistent feedback to swimmers and parents.
 
Be the USA Swimming representative for the Splash Aquatic Club.
 
On a regular basis discuss with swimmers their performance at meets and progress throughout the year through the implementation of written goals for each swimmer (kept in an individual log book), and on a regular basis reevaluate these goals both for the team and individual swimmer.
 
Conduct semi-annual parent meetings to discuss the goals, achievements, status of the swimming program and reinforcement of the vision of the swim team.
 
Performs other related duties as required.
 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
 
High School or college competitive swimming experience with knowledge of technical rules of swimming.
 
Must have some experience in coaching age group swimmers.
 
Must be willing to obtain a USA coaching certification within the first month of being hired.
 
Must demonstrate flexibility in the day-to-day operations of the team.
 
Possess the ability to motivate and support all swimmers.
 
Licenses and Certifications:
 
Ability to obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR/AED, First Aid certification within 3 months of employment.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 
Must not be a head coach nor an assistant coach for any other swim team (i.e. summer club teams, high school teams).
 
Competitive swimming experience from USA sanctioned Swim Club swimming or College competition team.
 
Demonstrated knowledge and application of sound competitive swimming skills, stroke mechanics and the ability to implement and teach these skills in a positive, healthy manner.
 
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to coach swimmers in dry-land joint and core strength building, and cardiovascular conditioning.
 
Strong writing and verbal communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
 
Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain swimmers.
 
Ability to demonstrate personal characteristics that will provide appropriate leadership to swimmers, parents, community and the USA Swimming World.
 

Supplemental information

This position is classified as safety-sensitive.  Incumbent will be subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
