The Director of Environmental & Sustainability will plan, lead, and coordinate the Oldcastle Infrastructure Sustainability Strategy implementation and all related Environmental Compliance programs and projects aimed at achieving the sustainability targets and improving the environmental performance across the business.
Working and collaborating with global and regional functions, the Director of Environmental & Sustainability will implement and drive sustainability programs to ensure the efficient, timely and on-budget execution of CRH sustainability projects and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Able to communicate and establish strong working relationships with all levels of management (front line leaders to senior executive management), with the ability to work well on a national level.
- Build Corporate Environmental & Sustainability team, including hiring of and managing direct reports and implementing growth, development, and succession plans.
- Develop and implement corporate-level environmental programs, policies, and procedures to ensure site compliance with federal, state, local and site permit and regulatory requirements.
- Assist sites in completing environmental inspections and audits providing recommendations and ensuring follow-up on corrective actions.
- Assist EHS team with the investigation of environmental deviances or facility Notices of Violation and coordinate the development of action plans.
- Work with the cross-functional leadership team to promote and support a positive and proactive sustainability culture throughout the business.
- Sustain the function agenda (with peers and the organization) in capital investment projects and every choice that has a potential environmental impact (i.e., energy consumption, site grading, air, stormwater, wastewater generation, waste streams, etc.).
- Ensure completion of internal and external recordkeeping and reporting requirements. Manage relevant tools/software and record management systems.
- Manage company's audit programs related the sustainability and environmental international standards.
- Network with external bodies (professional bodies/associations, academia, regulatory agencies etc.) to identify environmental compliance and/or sustainability best practices and supporting technological enablers (digitization, data analytics, knowledge systems etc.), with a view to driving continuous improvement.
- Ensure the alignment with existing and upcoming sustainability and environmental legislation and international standards.
- Work with Marketing, HR, Operations, and Communications to establish and promote an effective environmental and sustainability training and communication programs within the business.
- Own sustainability and environmental compliance performance standards, policies and KPIs, ensuring that all data is accurate and complete.
- Develop, implement, and drive environmental compliance through education, training, reporting and implementation of corporate compliance and company initiatives, identifying issues, performing audits / inspections, and helping to develop continuous improvement programs.
- Evolve forums to better foster EHS&S collaboration and knowledge sharing across regions and facilities.
- Support Corporate Health & Safety Director and other members of the Corporate EHS&S team as needed.

- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
