The Enterprise Valuation Group (EVG) within the ALM Finance department of Corporate Controller’s Group performs critical control and validation procedures over the Company’s general account investment portfolio and other investment activities affiliated with PFI.  The group also provides certain valuation services to the businesses related to significant transactions (including M&A and reinsurance) and unique strategic investments. EVG’s responsibilities also include developing and maintaining corporate level valuation oversight policy, guideline, and procedures, reviewing valuation processes and methodologies, and reporting valuation oversight results to senior management.

This role requires knowledge and skills to understand and evaluate credit related investment valuation matters across many asset types, including bonds, mortgages, equity, real estate and other alternative investments. The role should perform Analytical, Model and Accounting control and validation over the Company’s General Account/Separate Accounts investment activities.

This role will support the Vice President and/or Director of the group in preparing valuation subject analysis, consolidating valuation oversight results for multiple assets classes, and compiling/streamlining/presenting quarterly valuation council reports to finance management.

Experience with accounting and financial reporting practices (GAAP and STAT) is preferred (but not mandatory), particularly in the following areas:

  • Fair value measurement and reporting (ASC 820).
  • Measurement of Credit Losses on Financial Instrument / CECL Current Expected Credit Loss (ASU 2016-13).
  • Various accounting treatments for debt securities, equity securities, equity methods, and consolidation requirements.
  • Recognition and Measurement of Financial Assets and Financial Liabilities (ASU 2016-01) to address the recognition, measurement, presentation, and disclosure of certain financial instruments.

What you'll do:

  • Participating in the group’s focus range from optimizing liquid core assets valuation routines to maximizing transparency on illiquid, non-core assets with obstacles including unobservable inputs, operational lags, non-GAAP financials, etc.
  • Monitoring emerging valuation topics related to GAAP/Statutory/SEC reporting requirements and serving as a subject matter expert for valuation and valuation oversight.
  • Performing Quarter-end valuation testing and reviews.
  • Producing regular management reports on valuation oversight.
  • Working with the fair value reporting team to improve fair value leveling.
  • Performing other ad hoc valuation analysis to support financial reporting and management decision making.

What you'll need:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other relevant disciplines.
  • 5+ years experience in investment related financial analysis and reporting is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of financial security valuation principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of ASC 820 fair value leveling, measurement, and disclosures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to interact effectively with other functions, peers, and senior managers.
  • Reliable and accountable, with ability to work under tight time constraints.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills; high level of attention to details.
  • Leadership skills and talent management awareness.
  • Preferring candidates with knowledge of one or more valuation concepts, including cashflow discount models, yield curve analysis, enterprise value models using sales or earnings multiples, sum of the parts (SOTP) business valuation methods.
  • Ability work with cross-functional teams and deliver technology-driven solutions to investment analysis. Candidates with proficiency in investment analytics and data analysis are highly preferred. Experience with one or more programming and investment tools such as Python, SQL, Tableau, Power BI, Cognos, R, Matlab, Capital IQ, Bloomberg, Intex are desired but not mandatory

It would be a plus if you had:

  • CPA, CFA, MBA, or Master of Financial Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of investment IPV (Independent Price Verification) and valuation control procedures.
  • Auditing or consulting experience with a public accounting firm.
  • Experience with ASU 2016-01, Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement of Financial Assets and Financial Liabili
