The Director of Nursing Med/Surg is responsible to define, develop, and implement hospital initiatives and strategies to ensure that quality patient care is provided in a cost-effective manner, utilizing continuous quality improvement techniques.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsible for organizing, planning, and directing the clinical and administrative operations within Women's Health Services in accordance with Advocate’s mission and vision.

• Approves use of funds based on cost studies or review of department budget performance and projections.

• Selects, directs, and develops staff who will ensure the effective utilization of human resources, maintaining quality of care, while attaining hospital objectives.

• Directs the establishment of initiatives and strategies consistent in support of the overall Advocate, hospital, and nursing department’s goals and objectives.

• Responsible for the continued improvement of existing patient and supportive health care services to provide quality patient care.

• Ensures a comprehensive and integrated Quality Assurance/Improvement program is in place and that an environment of minimal risk to the patient exists.

• Collaborates with other members of the health care team to ensure that an environment of minimal risk to the patient exists.

• Assures quality patient care through a management process that facilitates appropriate utilization of resources: staff, time, and facilities.

• Assures that new clinical and operational knowledge and research in the health care field is incorporated into the delivery of patient care.

• Plans, develops, and implements the budgetary process, which includes operational, capital, and space planning.

• Monitors and assesses progress toward budgetary goals; guides the department manager through this process.

Responsible for the development and implementation of cost management/containment strategies in support of hospital objectives.

• Establishes effective control, monitoring, and reporting mechanisms of inventory/cost management.

• Maintains the optimal quality/cost balance.

• Works collaboratively with Finance, supply chain, materials management and business manager to initiate, direct, and coordinate cost containment efforts.

• Facilitates compliance with cost contracting programs through effective product evaluation, communication, education, and implementation.

Advocate Experience is hardwired within all areas. Assures customer service and associate satisfaction, focusing on solving customer problems, meeting/exceeding customer expectations, and assuring feedback to staff and developing programs to improve associate morale.

• Assures that programs are in place to improve patient satisfaction.

• Assures that Operations staff receives customer feedback and training.

• Utilizes CQI processes focused on improving service to patients.

• Assures patient complaints are handled, tracked, and responded to.
