Essential We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Director of Accounting to lead our accounting operations and enhance the financial statement reporting process. In this role, you will oversee the preparation of financial statements, ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and lead tax compliance efforts. We're looking for someone who is excited about the Ritual brand, has a strong background in accounting and e-commerce, and is committed to creating scalable solutions in a dynamic environment.
Essential We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Director of Accounting to lead our accounting operations and enhance the financial statement reporting process. In this role, you will oversee the preparation of financial statements, ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and lead tax compliance efforts. What You'll Do:
- Lead the adoption of new accounting guidance, working closely with internal teams and external auditors to ensure proper treatment
- Support the implementation of an internal control structure, ensuring compliance with SOX requirements
- Manage the financial reporting process, including the compilation of financial statements, segmented reporting, and developing key performance measures to meet reporting needs
- Review journal entries and schedules prepared by the accounting team
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assist in the development of new disclosures as necessary
- Ensure revenue is recognized in accordance with GAAP (ASC 606) and the company’s revenue recognition policies
- Apply revenue recognition standards to transactions related to gross-to-net revenue, cost of goods sold, reserves, and other revenue-related accounts (e.g., deferred revenue, gift card liabilities, store credit liabilities, refund reserves, and return assets)
- Continuously develop and refine business processes and procedures to support the growth of the accounting function.
- Take on special projects, including automation initiatives and other related responsibilities as needed.
Who You Are:
- Detail-Oriented & Analytical: You are thorough in your approach and understand the importance of getting the details right.
- Collaborative & Cross-Functional: You are comfortable working across teams and translating complex business concepts into practical, actionable solutions.
- Comprehensive Knowledge: You bring a well-rounded understanding of the entire accounting cycle, especially in e-commerce and direct-to-consumer businesses.
- Effective Communicator: You communicate openly and clearly, while also considering the broader business context.
What You Need:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA preferred
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in accounting, with exposure to retail, wholesale, and e-commerce; experience with Big 4 accounting or equivalent is a plus
- Expertise: Strong understanding of US GAAP, ASC 606, and SOX 404
- Skills: Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in handling large datasets
- Tools: Experience with Netsuite and proficiency with G-Suite and MS Office
- Writing: Proven experience in drafting technical memos or accounting policies
Compensation and Benefits:
- PAY RANGE: $130,000 - $193,000
- Your base salary is one part of your total compensation package. The salary range represents the entire compensation range for this position. Exact compensation will depend on a number of factors, which may include the successful candidate's skills, level, years of experience, technical expertise, and other qualifications. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. This role is also eligible for equity + generous benefits + 401k + unlimited PTO etc - see our list of perks/ benefits below.
