About the team

We are a team of Accountants within the Controller organization who own accounting for Revenues and related costs associated with Zillow Group’s Internet, Media and Technology (IMT) business segment. We work in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment and partner closely with teams throughout the Finance organization (including Technical Accounting/Financial Reporting, Tax, Accounts Receivable, and FP&A), as well as IT/Engineering, Business Operations and Product owners across various product lines.

About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated, hands-on, and results driven accounting leader to join our IMT Accounting team! This is a highly visible role that will lead the team in owning all aspects of revenue accounting for multiple revenue product lines and driving improvements to scale with the business. This position will play a key role in monitoring, evaluating and implementing revenue recognition for new products and customer contracts. The ideal candidate for this position is dynamic, strategic and adept at creating clarity from ambiguity.

In this role, you will:

  • Mentor and develop a team of 4-5 accounting professionals and cultivate an engaging and highly motivated team
  • Lead the month-end close process for your assigned revenue and related areas to ensure they are recorded timely and properly in accordance with US GAAP and internal policies
  • Provide relevant insight and explanation to financial results for accounting leadership and business partners
  • Continuously improve and refine processes and procedures that can scale effectively as we grow to increase efficiency and quality of the team’s deliverables
  • Partner cross-functionally to understand new / current product lines; lead the design and implementation of robust operational accounting processes and systems to support the product lines
  • Confer with technical accounting team on policy application to achieve consistency and optimal results
  • Work collaboratively with FP&A and others within the organization to assist in understanding our actual revenue as well as help provide guidance to support revenue forecasting
  • Drive strong internal controls to ensure compliance of all financial reporting requirements and maintain proper SOX documentations
  • Ensure accounting policy memos and supporting schedules are properly analyzed and documented
  • Support the external audit and quarterly/annual SEC filing by timely submission of PBC schedules and responses to inquiries
  • Serve as the functional expert in understanding the business and underlying systems and processes for your assigned revenue accounting areas
  • Perform ad-hoc/special projects and analysis as required

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York and Washington the standard base pay range for this role is $124,000.00 - $198,000.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York and Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA required
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and solid working knowledge of ASC 606 required
  • 4+ years of direct supervisory experience required
  • 6+ years of experience in revenue and general accounting required, preferably in mid-large sized tech or high growth company
  • Big 4 or Large National/Regional Audit experience, a plus
  • Ability to form relationships and collaborate across all levels of the organization
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills with the ability to present findings and interact at all levels of the organization
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and excel in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving, and data driven organization
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel
  • G Suite, Workday GL, Zuora and Salesforce.com experience a plus
