About the role
Uplight is creating a new category of energy. We make software that manages energy resources in homes and businesses—including things like smart thermostats, electric vehicles, solar panels, storage batteries, heat pumps, and even people’s behavior—to generate, shift, or save energy to balance the grid, making it more efficient and reliable. This creates clean energy capacity that can be used by the power grid instead of burning more fossil fuels. Our solutions accelerate the transition to clean energy and save money for energy customers.We are looking for a Data Scientist II to drive our company forward, and help us lead the clean energy revolution!How you will make an impact: As a member of the Data Science team within the Engineering organization, you will be in the data trenches for multiple product lines across Uplight. Data Scientists at Uplight work with stakeholders across the company to design and build machine learning models to digest, decipher, and discover new ways of thinking about who/how/why people and businesses use energy the way they do. As a Data Scientist, you will be a contributor on day one. Your role will be part builder, part communicator, and part peer-reviewer. Data Science is a highly collaborative team, and you will be hands-on with your teammates and engineers from across the company answering questions, building models, and helping out however you can. At the same time, you will own your own code for analyses, as well as communicating out all results to people across the company. What you bring to Uplight:
- Track record of building and maintaining machine learning models in a SaaS company
- Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (propensity modeling, regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.
- Fluent in model evaluation metrics and experience using various metrics to define “good” depending on product requirements
- Ability to process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis and modeling
- Experience dealing with large quantities of data across relational databases, cloud storage, and distributed compute systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting findings to technical and non-technical audiences
- Solid experience with common data science toolkits, such as scikit-learn, Spark ML, pandas, Scipy, etc
- Proficiency in Git or other version control systems
- Experience in Databricks and/or MLflow
- Experience using time series data
- Experience with energy and/or utility data
