The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $73920 - $95495.4 Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C’s annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate about Product Engineering? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Underground-Product Engineering department. As a Mechanical Engineer I, you’ll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.
S&C is the specialist in high-voltage switching, protection and control, providing products for the electric power industry since 1911. Product Engineering – Underground is responsible for S&C’s underground distribution products, including PMG, Vista UDS, and Vista SD. In this position you will report to the Assistant Manager – Product Engineering in the Underground group. Your primary responsibilities will be to provide engineering support to manufacturing and to external customers with regard to the manufacture and design of Vista UDS, Vista SD, and Vista Green UDS. The position requires a basic understanding and application of both electrical power and mechanical engineering principles.
After 1 year of training on 1st shift, the team member must be open to working swing shift (3pm-12am) on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. When working swing shift, a 10% shift premium will be applied to the team members base pay.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide sustaining engineering support to both internal and external customers of Vista UDS, Vista SD, and Vista Green UDS.
- Problem-solving design and manufacturing related problems through use of fundamental engineering calculations and theory.
- Creating and maintaining engineering standards.
- Communicating process and standards with the production team.
- Use formal problem-solving techniques to address quality and reliability issues.
- Create and maintain manufacturing/assembly methods to achieve cost-effective, world class manufacturing quality.
- Validate and implement design changes or develop new designs of components and subcomponents, under the direction of senior engineering personnel, either alone or collaborating with a team of engineers and designers.
- Work with product development teams to learn best practices to design for manufacture and assembly.
- Coordinate and perform product testing under limited supervision.
- Prepare reports and presentations for customers that enhances S&C’s engineering reputation.
What you’ll Need To Succeed:
Required
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or relevant experience.
- Product and manufacturing support experience.
- Willing to work swing sift hours (3pm-12am) on a weekly or biweekly basis after approximately 1 year of training.
- Knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals and theory with an emphasis on power engineering.
- Experience with manufacturing processes, tolerance analysis, the application of GD&T and FMEAs.
- Experience in the design and development of products utilizing castings, stampings, corrosion resistant coatings, and environmental seals.
