Texas Woman’s University (TWU) invites applications for a visionary and strategic leader to serve as Director of the School of Health Promotion and Kinesiology (SHPK). Housed within the College of Health Sciences, SHPK is home to nationally recognized undergraduate and graduate programs in Health Studies/Public Health and Kinesiology. The School’s mission is to improve health, impact communities, and transform the world through multidisciplinary research, innovative teaching, experiential learning, and community engagement.
The Director serves as the School’s chief academic and administrative officer, reporting directly to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences. The position is a 12-month, tenure-track appointment and includes a competitive salary and support for continued scholarly activity.
Strategic Vision & Responsibilities
The Director will guide the School in advancing strategic priorities in four primary areas:
Curriculum Development
- Lead interdisciplinary curriculum review and innovation across all academic levels
- Promote visibility and clarity of academic pathways and career opportunities through side-by-side marketing resources
- Expand flexibility in curriculum design to align with professional standards, student needs, and industry trends
- Support the development of new core and leadership-focused courses
- Encourage collaboration across sub-disciplines and with other TWU departments to enhance student exposure to broader health sciences
Faculty Excellence & Student Engagement
- Foster a culture of teaching excellence through peer mentoring, teaching observation, and professional development
- Increase student engagement outside the classroom (e.g., research, capstone projects, field trips, and conference presentations)
- Enhance faculty accessibility and visibility to students to support mentorship and advising
- Promote faculty involvement in recruitment, alumni relations, and student retention initiatives
Marketing & Outreach
- Collaborate with the TWU Marketing and Communication team to develop multimedia content for social media, recruitment videos, and lab/classroom tours
- Guide initiatives to improve targeted student outreach (e.g., virtual open houses, Zoom info sessions, and direct messaging)
- Strengthen SHPK's visibility through enhanced campus tours and student-led experiences
- Encourage faculty presence during tours and community outreach events to highlight lab spaces and student successes
Practical & Experiential Learning
- Expand internship opportunities and coordinate PT/OT and interdisciplinary placements
- Oversee the development of a unified SHPK internship manual for consistency across programs
- Ensure laboratory learning is meaningfully integrated with classroom instruction to reflect current professional practices
General Administrative Responsibilities
- Develop and implement long- and short-term goals that support programmatic growth and student success
- Oversee the School’s budget and allocate resources equitably and strategically
- Mentor faculty and staff, support professional development, and guide promotion and tenure processes
- Contribute to the School through teaching, research, and service as appropriate
- Collaborate across campuses and community partners to support interprofessional education and research initiatives
- Assure compliance with accreditation standards and assessment of student learning outcomes
- Promote alumni relations, external funding opportunities, and visibility of SHPK’s impact
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated success in curricular and programmatic innovation
- Experience cultivating faculty excellence and student success
- Strong record of scholarly achievement and mentoring
- Proven ability to lead inclusively and collaboratively with diverse faculty, staff, and students
- Strategic marketing and community engagement experience
Minimum Qualifications
- An earned doctorate in health promotion, kinesiology, or related discipline
- Qualifications for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure
- At least three years of academic administrative or leadership experience
