Recreation & Wellness Specialist

Position Summary: This position aims to increase employee wellness, recreational knowledge, and participation to improve overall health and wellness, including stimulating physical and emotional growth and enhancing employee satisfaction and retention through the benefits of teamwork, positive socialization, good sportsmanship, and healthy relationships. May include working with youth to enhance overall wellness.

Starting Salary Range:  $20.38 - $22.94 per hour.  Salary reflects steps 1-5 of an 11-step pay schedule. The starting salary will be determined based on the applicant’s education and relevant experience.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities: 

1. Engage staff in a variety of activities to enhance employee wellness, retention, and a positive work environment.
2. Supervise daily recreational activities and participate with staff & youth whenever possible. 
3. Will assist in any maintenance needs of the building. 
4. Assist in maintaining surrounding areas associated with this department: softball, soccer fields, sand volleyball and playground area, along with barn/horse areas also possible. 
5. Supervise outdoor activities/trips such as camping, hiking, biking, and canoeing. 
6. Assist in maintaining outdoor equipment and bikes. 
7. Supervise and coach intramural activities and team sports. 
8. Supervise on and off campus groups that utilize the Recreation Center. 
9. Assist with the planning and implementation of outdoor programming, special events and rental opportunities. 
10. Contribute to the strategic goals and outcomes of the agency as measured by the development and achievement of individual, departmental, and organizational goals, and outcomes. Participate in Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) goals of the organization, both individually and as a team member.
11. Deal constructively and helpfully with all other members of the organization. 
12. Fully support and model the mission and values of YBGR.
13. Adhere to all policies, systems, safety requirements, and procedures of the organization.
14. Take the initiative to identify problems and seek out solutions.
15. Be a professional representative of the organization to those outside it.
16. Participate and engage in monthly supervision/coaching meetings with the supervisor.
17. Be aware of the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the persons served.
18. Participate in required training as appropriate to the position and beneficial to YBGR.
19. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• 21 years old or older
• Criminal / Child Abuse Clearance: Must pass criminal record and child abuse registry background check as required by the State of Montana.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or Physical Education or related field
• Minimum 5 (five) years’ experience in recreation, including outdoor activities, traditional sports and water activities.
• Must obtain lifeguard certification within first 3 months and maintain certification.
