Energy Trading Analyst (Summer Intern) – TERP
TerraForm Power, a Brookfield Renewable portfolio company, is looking for an individual with interests in working in an asset management and trading organization. The intern would work with the commercial team on data and market analytics, trading and origination strategies and business unit reporting (dashboards). In addition, the individual will participate in portfolio optimization around generation production and trading positions.
The Energy Trading Analyst (Summer Intern) would possess programming abilities to develop and manage new and existing tools related to energy market fundamentals and analysis.
Responsibilities
- Assist in and lead, when assigned, the development of energy market tools; market position, asset profits and loss, market strategy analysis, and portfolio optimization analytics.
- Develop new and manage Tableau and Python (or similar) based tools to analyze and track trading data, forward pricing, basis and volatility curves and related reporting.
- Validate key market assumptions with market data and track performance. Research and quantify deviations between forecast, budget and actual results.
- Support data aggregation efforts, analysis and strategies to assist in the implementation of asset activities across the renewable generation fleet;
- Responds to internal requests from other functions for data and analysis
Qualifications
- Able to meet multiple objectives in a dynamic, fast-paced, team environment;
- Well organized and ability to synthesize and conceptualize complex ideas;
- Comfortable working with large data sets;
- Strong team player with solid analytical skills and strong attention to detail;
- Excellent written and oral communications skills;
- Self-motivated with demonstrated initiative;
Required Skills and/or Experience
- Working towards a degree in finance, engineering, mathematics, computer science, information technology, or other related discipline;
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel;
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Python, VB, SQL, etc.) is preferred; especially packages such as Pandas and Numpy, and other programming languages;
- Familiarity with Azure cloud environment and working with Data Factory and Data Brick is an asset
