About the role

As a Baader Technician Trainee at our Alaska seafood processing facilities, this role is responsible for learning and developing the skills necessary to maintain and repair Baader 182, 192, 212, and 427 processing equipment. This role involves hands-on training under the guidance of experienced technicians, focusing on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems. Trainees will learn to troubleshoot equipment issues, perform routine maintenance, and assist in installations and upgrades. The training program emphasizes safety protocols and industry standards to ensure a safe and efficient workplace. 

Essential Functions/Qualifications 

The responsibilities of the position include the following: 

  • Participate in hands-on training programs under the guidance of experienced technicians. 
  • Learn about the components, functions, and maintenance procedures of Baader 182, 192, 212, and 427 processing equipment. 
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, lubrication, and inspection. 
  • Assist experienced technicians in diagnosing and repairing equipment malfunctions. 
  • Adhere to safety regulations and industry standards, including lockout-tagout procedures. 
  • Maintain accurate records of training activities and equipment maintenance. 
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in equipment technology and maintenance techniques. 
  • Basic mechanical skills and understanding of mechanical principles. 
  • Understand and able to implement safe work procedures.  
  • Other duties are to ensure the facility and organization is fully supported and successful.

Education and Experience 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Baader Certificate or equivalent training and experience.  
  • Prior experience in a mechanical or technical role, particularly in a manufacturing or seafood industrial setting. 
  • Seafood or manufacturing experience preferred but not required. 

Work Environment and Schedule  

As a Baader Technician Trainee in a seafood processing plant, this role often works in a demanding and physically challenging environment. Typically, loud, cold, and wet, especially in Alaska processing plants. Technicians may be exposed to moving machinery, sharp objects, and hazardous chemicals. This role often works long hours, including weekends and holidays, to ensure continuous production. Position requires onsite presence at our Alaska Processing Facility, and the ability to travel, spending a significant amount of time during the season at our various locations and processing facilities in Alaska.  

Physical Demands  

The role requires significant physical strength to lift moderate to heavy equipment, endurance to stand for extended periods in cold, wet environments, and manual dexterity for precise tool usage. Additionally, the technician must be mentally focused to troubleshoot complex issues and work in a noisy environment.
