Function / Position Summary

To support the early learner program in providing a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the needs of the students. Perform duties and activities under direct supervision of a certified staff member. Adhere to published policies and procedures distributed by the district and school. Maintain confidentiality of student, staff and department information within the school and community.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Implement individual or small group instruction under the direction and/or supervision of a certified teacher.
  • Collaborate with the teacher, prepare and maintain materials.
  • Familiarize self with goals and objectives for individual students in the classroom.
  • Facilitate implementation of behavioral programs and procedures.
  • Document student behavior and learning as directed by the teacher.
  • Help in loading and unloading student buses during assigned work hours.
  • Escort students as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Lift, transfer, position, toilet, etc.
  • Attend staff meetings and staff development activities as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Paraprofessional Educator License, Professional Educator or Provisional Educator License required.
  • Minimum education requirement for a Paraprofessional Educator License is: associates degree or higher, completion of at least 60 semester hours of college course work or a high school diploma or GED with a passing score on the ETS Para Pro exam or two specific Work Keys exams.
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred. Certain assignments require Bilingual � Spanish/English.

Experience / Knowledge

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Lift, transfer, position, toileting etc. (for special skills positions only).
  • Excellent physical agility and quick response time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Terms of Employment

  • This is a 10-month position.
  • Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education and set forth in the collective bargaining agreement as applicable.
