Department Overview

 

Power Generation operates and maintains PG&E's hydroelectric, fossil, solar generation and battery storage facilities, providing approximately 5,300 megawatts of generating capacity for our customers. Our nearly 900 coworkers are dedicated to delivering safe, reliable and cost-effective generation to California in an environmentally responsible manner. Our hydro facilities include 62 conventional hydro powerhouses, a pumped-storage facility, 98 reservoirs, 168 dams and more than 200 miles of canals and flumes, among other water conveyances. Natural gas-fired plants in operation are Humboldt Bay Generating Station in Eureka; Colusa Generating Station in Colusa County and Gateway Generating Station in Antioch. Several utility-scale solar generation plants also are operated and maintained, as well as PG&E’s successful entry into battery energy storage, our Elkhorn Battery facility at Moss Landing in Monterey County.

 

Position Summary

 

This is an IBEW Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E.

 

The successful candidate will perform kitchen duties at a remote worksite camp facility preparing and cooking food for crews lodging in camp. The cook will set up and restock kitchen and lunch assembly stations, transport food to dining area, serve food, and clean and maintain work areas and dining rooms. General housekeeping of dormitories may be required as needed. This person will be working indoors in low-rise buildings with basic heating and air conditioning and will need to walk to and from buildings/client sites across uneven ground, carpeted flooring, non-carpeted linoleum, wood, gravel, dirt and lawn flooring in all weather conditions.

 

This position is located at a major hydroelectric facility at the Helms Pumped Storage Powerhouse located about two hours northeast of Fresno in a very remote area of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Housekeepers must be able to work well with others, use good judgment to make decisions, and take directions from others.

 

Residency onsite is not required, and no housing accommodations for employees will be available.

 

This position is physical in nature and may include lifting, crawling, crouching, grasping, carrying, kneeling, ability to walk for long distances and the ability to use upper extremities including your lower back. Work environment may include varying temperatures and weather conditions.

 

This position is intermittent/full time with a varied schedule based on the work and number of workers within camp. Monday through Friday is the typical work schedule (hours: 5:00am – 7:00 or 7:30pm) in a variation of scheduled hours; weekends are included in schedule; kitchen assistance 0-8 hours, or may work split shift (hours: 5:00am – 8:00am and 4:00pm – 7:00pm or 7:30pm) of morning and afternoons for breakfast, lunch and dinner shift.

 

Note: This job does not include health benefits until employee has attained regular status. Intermittent employees may attain regular status upon the completion of six months of continuous service. Continuous service is defined as being uninterrupted by (1) discharge, (2) resignation, or (3) absence for more than a cumulative total of 30 days due to (i) layoff, (ii) sickness or industrial disability, or (iii) other causes. If an employee is off for more than 30 days during a six-month period, a new six-month qualifying period will begin upon return to work.

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $47.60 per hour.  This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.
