As more than just compliance, the Financial Reporting Manager will have the opportunity to partner across Finance and in the other parts of the Company to help support the growth of SPS. As the owner of both SEC reporting and Technical Accounting/Policy, you will be a key player in ensuring the operational and financial impacts are appropriately reflected externally via financial statements and working with the new opportunities SPS is pursuing to ensure the underlying accounting is correct. The role is dynamic in nature given our growing business and as it involves a combination of recurring and non-recurring work as performed both as a team leader and as an individual contributor. Improving existing processes to make them more efficient, reliable, and scalable will be key to success.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

The Financial Reporting Manager is responsible for the external (SEC) reporting process in addition to managing accounting policy and technical accounting research for the Controllership. Both components will involve partnering with internal stakeholders in Corporate Accounting, Financial Planning & Analysis, Billing, Equity, Legal and other areas internal and external to Finance.

 

Financial Reporting

  • Lead the timely and accurate preparation and review of SEC filings (10K/10Q/ 8K)
  • Support Investor Relations for various press releases, Legal on preparation of the Proxy statement and other external public filings as needed
  • Coordinate compilation of all components of certain Audit Committee materials ensuring they are prepared with a high degree of quality and timeliness
  • Utilize and optimize tools available to assist in the reporting process, such as Workiva (reporting/filing tool) and Oracle Fusion (ERP)
  • Be a valuable business partner to other departments within the organization by providing ad-hoc requests for financial information

 

Technical Accounting/Policy

  • Research, document and resolve complex accounting issues and transactions, such as those relating to revenue recognition, deferred costs, internally developed software, and business combinations
  • Stay up to date on accounting standard updates with periodic reporting to management and ensure appropriate timely adoption cross-functionally
  • Lead the ongoing development/establishment of accounting policies and procedures
  • Support the Controllership in providing ongoing training on new and existing accounting standards and hot-topics

 

Additional

  • Embrace continuous improvement to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of processes
  • Support external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and resolving inquiries in a timely manner
  • Report to senior and executive level leaders on various topics
  • Execute on non-recurring financial projects, as needed
  • Mentor team members for growth of skills and engagement

Location:     

This role is based in our Minneapolis, MN office and requires onsite presence 2–3 days per week.

 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of related experience;
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with SEC filings, U.S. GAAP, and SOX
  • Ability to take initiative, use strong research, analytical and communication skill while having attention to detail, a collaborative style, and an inquisitive mindset  

Preferred Experience

  • Strong application and interpretation experience within Revenue Recognition (ASC 606), ideally in Software as a Service (SaaS)
  • Public accounting and/or public company experience
  • CPA licensure
  • Demonstrated abilities and comfort to navigate a variety of platforms (e.g., Oracle Fusion or equivalent ERP, Workiva, BlackLine and PowerBI)
  • Polished communication, writing, and presentation skill
  • Experience with Mergers & Acquisitions, including supporting due diligence and leading the valuation of acquired intangible assets
