- Production Supervisor
Primary Purpose of this Position:
Supervise and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in rebar processing, fabrication and warehousing.
Essential Job Functions:
- Plan and coordinate all activities of employees to insure safe and productive operations that are effectively coordinated with production activities. Insure that employees are working safely and perform high quality work at all times.
- Advise the Production Services Director or Division Manager on the status of manpower and other resources necessary to meet work orders.
- Coordinate scheduled work activities with other shop supervisors. Communicate the status of work to other shop supervisors.
- Plan and coordinate the cost-effective availability of tools, supplies, and parts. Ensure that an adequate inventory of spare parts is maintained to allow the cost effective, timely continuation of production and fabrication.
- Effectively maintain the required computerized work order and inventory system.
- Supervise all shop employees. Motivate employees to achieve work goals. Enforce work and safety policies.
- Conduct Performance Reviews and update training plans.
- Participate in the hiring process and promotion of personnel into, or within, the department. Recommend termination of shop personnel when necessary.
- Identify training needs and assist in the implementation of programs to train and educate employees.
- Make recommendations on work methods or equipment improvements to increase the efficiency of production and/or fabrication operations.
- Other duties as assigned by the Production Manager or Division Director.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to supervise technical personnel and to work with other supervisors and management personnel.
- Thorough knowledge of steel fabrication practices and procedures.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read, write, and perform higher arithmetic computations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.
- Ability to understand and carry out semi-complicated verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to use and understand CNC (computer-controlled) logic systems.
- Ability to interpret, understand and utilize cutting lists, shop orders, and shop drawings.
- Ability to use a computer for cut lists and inventory purposes.
- Ability to possess pride in own workmanship, demonstrate attention to detail, and work safely.
- Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes in a safe and proper manner. Use and understand industry and Drake-Williams Steel adopted hand signals used for crane operations.
- Perform minor mechanical tasks on machine (tooling changes, adjustments, cleaning, etc.)
- Ability to follow inventory procedures.
- Ability to multi-task.
