Quality Assurance Engineer

VES, LLC seeks a highly skilled and motivated Quality Assurance Engineer to join our AFATDS team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing manual testing to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of our Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System. This role requires a hands-on approach to test and troubleshoot various components of AFATDS, ensuring they meet or exceed the rigorous standards required in military applications. This role can be performance remotely, with occasional travel to NJ.
General Job Duties:
- Develop and execute manual test plans to identify software issues within AFATDS.
- Collaborate with software developers and engineers to understand system functionalities and integration.
- Document and report any defects or potential improvements, managing the lifecycle of each issue until resolved.
- Perform regression testing, hardware testing, and user acceptance testing to verify system performance and reliability.
- Participate in review sessions to improve testing processes and enhance system quality.
- Assist in creating user manuals and other documentation for system users.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Working knowledge of the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC)
- Ability to develop effective software test plans and software test strategy documentation
- Familiarity with professional software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle, including requirements elicitation, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, agile development, build processes, testing, and operations
- Experience with Atlassian (JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence).
- Ability to work independently as well as in a fast-paced collaborative environment
- Passionate about learning new technologies, tools, and platforms
- Ability to take guidance and execute in a self-motivated manner
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to effectively identify software failures and root causes.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate software applications and data to deduce quality improvements.
- Experience with security testing methodologies to identify vulnerabilities in software applications.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Desired Skills and Competencies:
- Familiarity with Army Mission Command Systems
- SQL Database experience
- JMeter, Neoload, or similar load testing
- Understanding of REST and SOAP
- Performance metrics collection and reporting
- Demonstrated ability to create and manage an automated test suite
- Familiar with Test Management Tools such as TestLink, Zephyr, TestRail, etc.
- Military Standards including 6017A, 6017C, MIL2525C, and 2045-47001C
- TCP, UDP, and other Networking Protocols
- Military Networks including WIN-T, BFT2, and LAN
- VMWare Administration
- Microsoft Windows Server Administration
Required Education and Experience:
- BS in Computer Science or a related field, with 4 years of relevant experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with respect to all the above requirements.
