Job Summary

The RACU/General Medicine
is an eighteen-bed unit crafted for the care of patients requiring focused pulmonary care and the care of patients with general medical diagnoses. This role will float between Bigelow 9 General Medicine and Bigelow 13 RACU, providing clinical support based on unit needs.

Schedule:

Days (7am-3pm7am-7pm), Evening (3pm-11pm), and Nights (7pm-7am, 11pm-7am)
Mandatory weekend shifts every month.
Holiday rotating schedule.

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate (PCA) supports the multidisciplinary healthcare team in providing safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care. PCA assists patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility support, while promoting comfort and maintaining patient dignity. Responsibilities also include monitoring and documenting vital signs, obtaining EKGs, drawing blood, and responding promptly to patient requests while safeguarding confidentiality and always ensuring patient safety.

Essential Functions
• Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs with accuracy and within established time frame and/or as requested.
• Complete all documentation in the medical record as required.
• Interacts with patients and their families effectively.
• Helps patients with several basic hygiene tasks. This may include bathing and dressing patients, helping them use the toilet if needed, and feeding them.
• Assist with helping patients turn and reposition themselves in bed as needed and help them move between the bed and a wheelchair if they use one.
• Listen to any health concerns patients may have and report those concerns to the nurses.


 

Qualifications

    High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred,

    Basic Life Support [BLS Certification]

 Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred

Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred Emergency Medical Technician - Basic [Massachusetts] - Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services preferred

Nursing Assistant [LNA - Massachusetts] - Massachusetts Board of Nursing preferred

Experience
Experience working in patient care/elder care 1-2 years preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong patient/customer service skills.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
- Proficient computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.
