Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Construction Engineer - Aviation to be based in Hunt Valley, Maryland.
This position is open to recent and Winter 2023/2024 graduates and will begin as soon as available in our Transportation Aviation Business Line.
The position involves engineering and construction management of airport projects dealing with airfield safety, standards, improvement, and expansion programs. Construction work includes construction administration and management including shop drawing review, responding to contractor questions, and construction inspection. Design work includes airfield site design, construction safety and phasing, erosion and sediment control design, utility coordination and design, environmental permitting, and preparation of construction plans, specifications, schedules, design reports, and cost estimates to support the design team, including constructability reviews. The Aviation Engineering Group interacts with and is supported by many other in-house disciplines including Planners, Architects, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical and Special Systems Engineers in typical projects supporting our airport clients.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Performs construction administration and construction inspection.
- Serves as RPR/RE on the construction phase of airport projects within the region led by our Hunt Valley office.
- Facilitates the construction management of the project through coordination with the Project Manager, Design Team, Contractor, and Owner.
- Tracks quantities and work progress utilizing field measurements and Civil 3D.
- Travels to airport project sites (expected 75%+ field work).
- Conducts civil engineering design and constructability reviews for airport projects to support design team.
- Completes designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematics, and final working drawings for preparation of construction plans related to airport development projects including runways, taxiways, aprons, hangars, terminals, and other airport facilities.
- Prepares construction specifications for airport development projects per FAA Advisory Circular 150/5370-10 and State requirements.
- Prepares design reports, schedules, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
- Collects and analyzes data to support design and construction phases of projects.
- Uses various computer software for design development and prepares plans in Civil 3D.
- Coordinates and collaborates with other airport/civil engineering, architectural, and engineering disciplines, sub-consultants, Utility companies, permitting agencies, contractors, government and regulatory agencies, and clients.
- Performs work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Valid Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft Office Software.
- Experience using AutoCAD/Civil 3D design software.
- Experience in performing construction administration and inspection.
- Read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language.
- Ability to work in both an office and field (construction) environment.
- Ability to pass Federal background and criminal investigation checks in order to obtain Airport identification badges.
