St. Jude needs one Maintenance Engineer to join our team to help achieve the facilities operations department's mission.
Key tasks include:
- Assist in achieving departmental goals by providing utility system maintenance and repair for equipment located in the Central Energy Plant and the campus primary utility distribution systems in accordance with applicable codes.
- Provide recommendations, advice and oversight on installation and modification of new utilities systems.
The shift for this role is Monday-Friday from 6:30 am - 3:00 pm.

Responsibilities:
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of all Central Energy Plant and campus building utility systems and activities that affect these systems. Comply with work related safety precautions and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Be able to properly maintain and operate all utility systems equipment in the Central Energy Plant and the campus primary utility distribution systems without causing disruptions in order to perform maintenance or test equipment following repairs. Maintain high pressure fire tube and water tube package boilers utilizing oil and gas as fuels. Maintain the feed water system consisting of the deaerating feed water heater, feedwater pumps, and duplex water softeners. Maintain auxiliary equipment. Maintain water treatment equipment for the steam, condensate, chill water, condenser water, and reheat systems. Maintain centrifugal air conditioning chiller and associated auxiliary equipment including pumps and cooling towers. Maintain various types of supply and exhaust fans. Maintain rotary and reciprocating air compressor systems. Maintain fuel oil systems including pumps, controls, and monitoring system. Maintain and monitor fire protection systems at Central Energy Plant. Maintain and operate emergency diesel electric generating system in the Central Energy Plant. Maintain induced draft cooling towers located at the Central Energy Plant and throughout the campus.
- Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on utility system components under the direction of the Utility Systems Supervisor to include complete rebuilding of equipment such as pumps, fans, compressors, steam traps, etc. Ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment at all times.
- Interpret and clarify work order request for work to be performed and ensure quality and thoroughness work accomplished. Evaluate to ensure work requests do not violate regulatory and safety codes. Respond to request with time frame of completion and cost estimate.
- Cooperate with and support other FOM and contractor personnel on work requirements that involve utility systems or major components. Assist in coordinating and scheduling work with other departments and vendors as required.
- Provide assistance and direction for project helpers and temporary employees. Coordinate and assign specific job duties Ensure quality, quantity and thoroughness of helper assigned duties.
- Conform to established office procedures such as routing work orders and completing necessary documentation after job completion and ordering materials, tools and equipment as necessary.
- Continually maintain a courteous, positive, responsive attitude during interactions with patients, visitors, SJCRH and contractor personnel. Actively demonstrate a positive customer service philosophy at all times.
- Exhibit the ability to handle a variety of changing duties and work within the limits and standards set by building codes and other requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
- High School diploma or GED.
Minimum Experience:
- Five (5) years experience as Maintenance Engineer/Shift Engineer in hospital or related environment
- Minimum three (3) years experience of the 5 years must be performing maintenance on utilities systems
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:
- (LC: STEAM-1ST) Current Shelby County First Class Steam License
- (LC: REFRIG-1ST) Current Shelby County First Class Refrigeration License
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification
