This position requires an experienced professional with a strong understanding of modeling high voltage battery systems, thermal management, cells and the challenges of optimizing these for a specific application. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches their work with vigor and determination. Role:
  • Be part of a passionate and highly driven team of multi-disciplinary engineers developing the next generation of Lucid’s HV System 
  • Develop numerical models of physical systems, and optimization tools to assess electrical and thermal performance of the HV battery and power electronics. 
  • Develop and/or use existing simulation tools to support control and hardware development for HV design, charging, high performance driving scenarios, and other challenging thermal scenarios. 
  • Work closely with the vehicle simulation team to integrate HV system models into the vehicle models with appropriate revision control and release notes. 
  • Provide support in strategy, design, simulation and validation by closely working with applications, battery, power electronics, hardware, and testing teams. 
  • Develop simulation tools and propose control strategies to balance efficiency, power, and thermal capabilities against costs for our current products and future product roadmap. 
  • Build tools to support the pre-processing of simulation parameters and the post-processing of simulation results. 


Qualifications:
  • A proven track record of technical excellence in systems modelling and simulation 
  • 2+ years of experience using modeling and simulation tools like MATLAB, Simulink, and other specialized tools 
  • Thorough understanding of modeling techniques used to simulate lithium-ion cells, battery packs, power electronics and thermal systems 
  • Capability of processing and documenting results in a concise and elegant fashion to successfully communicate information to the team and other departments 
  • Strong experience in scripting simulation workflows with varying availability of documentation 
  • Experience of resolving issues through appropriate analysis and design modifications 
  • Excellent communication skills in both technical and non-technical environments 
  • Ownership mindset, enthusiasm, and a collaborative spirit


Preferred:
  • Experience with HIL and SIL testing 
  • In-depth understanding of battery technology, power electronicsand simulation techniques 
  • Additional fields of experience (thermal, electromagnetics, material science) 
  • Some knowledge of scripting for simulation process automation 
  • Experience using Python 
  • Strong understanding of the interactions between the HV system and other vehicle subsystems 
  • Experience with revision control tools, such as git/svn  


Education:
  • BS (and preferably MS or PhD) in a relevant engineering discipline
