Cryo-EM Facility Manager
SchrödingerAbout the role
We are looking to hire a Cryo-EM Facility Manager to join us in our mission to discover and develop drugs that improve human health through the use of breakthrough computational methods.
Our drug discovery and early clinical development team includes a cross-functional group of scientists and drug developers with experience working on all common target classes and therapeutic areas. The group is supported by more than 100 software developers and engineers, as well as a large-scale compute infrastructure to apply our proprietary physics-based drug design and optimization platform. Ten of the programs we’ve worked on have progressed into preclinical development with four currently in clinical trials and one approved by the FDA.
This position will be based in the Greater Boston area at our new facility in Framingham, MA, which will house a Thermo Scientific Glacios 2 Cryo-TEM equipped with a Falcon 4i Direct Electron Detector and Selectris Imaging Filter.
Who will love this job:
- A cryo-EM expert who’s eager to push the boundaries of the technology, from sample prep through data collection strategies and computational image analysis
- A passionate scientist who’s excited about broadening the applicability of cryo-EM in enabling structure- and computation-driven drug discovery programs
What you will do:
- Work in a state-of-the-art structural biology team of 20+ structural biologists, protein scientists, and biophysicists with fully integrated gene-to-structure capabilities
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and scheduling for our Glacios and associated equipment (including our Vitrobot Mark IV and Leica Plunge Freezer EM GP2)
- Train and supervise new users
- Collaborate with the cryo-EM team in the optimization of sample preparation (from construct design through vitrification), data collection, and data processing workflows
- Lead the adoption and development of new technologies for single-particle analysis, tomography, and microED applications
- Interface with drug discovery and scientific development teams to drive projects forward with the use of our internal cryo-EM technology
- Build and maintain relationships with instrument service engineers and external cryo-EM service providers
What you should have
- MS or PhD in structural biology, biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, biophysics, chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline
- At least three years of experience managing a cryo-EM core facility, acting as a cryo-EM service engineer, or serving as a cryo-EM application scientist
- Deep knowledge of high-resolution structure determination of biological samples by cryo-EM, from sample vitrification to data collection and image analysis
- Extensive hands-on experience in cryo-TEM instrument operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Experience setting up high-throughput computational workflows for single-particle analysis
