Role Summary:

Cariad, a Volkswagen Group Company, is at the forefront of driving innovation in the automotive industry. We are responsible for software and electrical hardware platforms across all Volkswagen Group automobile brands, including Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen, Skoda, and more. Our mission is to redefine the holistic vehicle user experience in and around software-defined vehicles, blending both physical and digital interactions to set new standards for the future of mobility.

We are seeking an exceptional Creative Director for our SDV UX Group. This pivotal role reports directly to the VP of Product Design and is instrumental in shaping the future of automotive user experiences across all Volkswagen Group brands through the creation of reference designs.

Role Responsibilities:

Design Direction 

  • Set the creative and strategic direction for the SDV Reference Designs, ensuring that the user interface is intuitive, engaging, and of the highest quality. These designs will serve as references for the brands within the Volkswagen Group, guiding their own implementations. Utilize test driving and iterative processes to refine and perfect these reference designs.
  • Oversee the creation of high-quality reference designs, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of quality and usability. Employ rigorous testing, iteration, and quality assurance processes to refine and enhance these reference interfaces.
  • Utilize excellent presentation and persuasion skills to effectively communicate design concepts and strategies to stakeholders at all levels, including brand executives and engineering teams. Advocate for the user experience and influence decisions that impact the design and functionality of our reference designs.
  • Drive innovation by staying ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies that can be used to enhance experiences in and around vehicles. Incorporate this knowledge into design strategies to maintain a competitive edge and drive innovation.

Leadership and Collaboration 

  • Lead and mentor a team of designers, fostering a creative and collaborative environment. Provide guidance and professional development opportunities to help team members grow and excel in their roles.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and product management teams to ensure seamless integration of design and functionality. Advocate for design priorities and ensure that user experience remains a central focus throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Work closely with Volkswagen Group brands such as Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche to understand their specific needs and aspirations. Collaborate to create designs that can be platformized, ensuring a cohesive and versatile user experience that can be adapted by different vehicle models within the group.

General Skills:

  • Proven experience in a leadership role, preferably within the automotive or technology sectors.
  • Exceptional presentation, communication, and persuasion skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and influence key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate and work with multiple teams across geographies and time zones.
