Description

Laurel Crest Retirement Community is looking for a PRN Cook to prepare delicious meals according to the menu. This person will cook dishes that will delight our residents with taste and timely delivery. Weekends and various shifts available.
Responsibilities & Skills
- Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)\
- Prepare food as indicated on menu for residents, guests and staff using standardized recipes based on production sheets and standard portion sizes.
- Schedule food preparation, as directed, so items are prepared according to time required to meet serving schedule. Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment.
- Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
- Check quality of ingredients.
- Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served.
- Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen. Monitor sanitation procedures for daily, weekly and monthly schedules.
- Monitor all hot and cold temperature logs daily.
- Estimate food requirements and control serving portions, eliminating waste and leftovers.
- Label and date food for refrigerator; clean all work areas after each use and any extra cleaning assignments as scheduled by the Chef or Dining Services Director.
- Assist with training and orientation of kitchen staff in food preparation, safe handling, operation of equipment, food safety and sanitation based on Corporate and Regulatory Standards..
- Assist in preparing menu items for retail, caterings and special functions.
- Maintain daily records of supplies used from stockroom, receive and check daily deliveries; assist with pricing stock after deliveries.
- Assist, as directed in menu planning, preparing food and locking and unlocking department; assist Wait Staff with tray deliveries as needed.
- Ensure stove, ovens, grills, steam table and deep fryer are turned off at the end of the work day.

Requirements
What is good to have:
- High School Diploma or GED - ServSafe Preferred
- Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.
- Excellent customer service skills
- One year cooking experience in a restaurant, healthcare or hospitality setting
