Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

The Charge Cook leads the complete operation of the kitchen, which includes food preparation, food distribution, and the coordination of kitchen activities to ensure that high quality services required by patients and staff at the site are met. The Charge Cook supervises all staff to ensure all phases of the operation comply with required legislation, policies, procedures and standards.

Experience

  • 3 years of experience supervising staff in a large-scale kitchen/food production operation with 5 years of direct food production experience.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • A high school diploma from a recognized educational institution.
  • Completion of a recognized course in Commercial Cooking is an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Current Safe Food Handling certification.
  • Red Seal certification.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrate strong leadership abilities. Shared Health has embraced the LEADS in a Caring Environment Framework adopted across the Manitoba health system.
  • Ensure food safety requirements, safe work practices, and health regulations.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Prioritize work and meet established deadlines under pressure.

Physical Requirements

  • Required to work standing for full shifts in a kitchen with varying temperatures, and work rotating shifts including statutory holidays and weekends.
  • Required to meeting tight time constraints daily.
  • Required to lift and carry items of up to approximately 15 kg.
  • Interruptions to respond to questions are common; dedicated and focused time for planning and concentration can be scheduled.
