Contractor - Civil/Structural Engineer (Structural Analysis)

About the role

NOTE:  This is a contract position anticipated to last 12 months or longer, and available to be fully remote within the contiguous United States. 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY: Applies technical knowledge, insight, reasoning, and decision making to perform civil structural analyses and design of Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures. Candidates should possess a strong design background and be proficient in structural concrete and steel analysis and design. Candidate shall be capable of leading technical activities and provide effective technical mentorship to less experienced engineer.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serves as subject matter expert in the civil structural design areas. As the subject matter expert, the individual is expected to be capable of resolving technical issues, coordinating discussion with interdisciplinary stakeholders, and working with the management team to identify project impacts.
  2. Works on highly complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas and proposes innovative design solutions requiring a significant amount of independent judgment.
  3. Works on developing the technical expertise required to bring in advances technical capabilities in house as deemed beneficial and strategic for NuScale.
  4. Uses structural engineering tools and implements appropriate standards to design Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures including post-processing analytical results and designing structures for various material types (concrete, steel, etc).
  5. Interfaces with NuScale Licensing in support of domestic and international regulatory efforts.
  6. Interacts with other disciplines and structural engineering consultants in an effort to allow effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems.
  7. Individuals should possess or acquire general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
  8. Provides guidance and mentoring to other staff members in support of the team’s technical activities.
  9. Develops and reviews requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies.
  10. Possess strong written and oral communication skills and routinely interacts with contractors and/or regulatory bodies.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Quality Assurance: Demonstrates understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1.

 

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Education/Certification: A minimum of a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school is required. An advanced degree is preferred. A registered professional engineer
