About the role

Role and Scope of Position:  

Responsible for oversight of construction contractor activities in accordance to project plans and specifications for projects at Eversource.  Observes and inspects construction contractors in the field to ensure adherence to specifications, codes, state/local siting conditions, contract documents, environmental regulations, and safety regulations.  Assigned transmission line and/or substation construction projects. Works closely with personnel in Transmission Project Management, Environmental Permitting, Siting, local control centers, and Outreach Services.

Essential Functions: 

  • Individual is assigned projects requiring close stakeholder interaction such as substation expansion projects, transmission line re-build projects, or other system enhancement projects.
  • Ensures compliance with environmental programs, policies, rules and regulations.
  • Ensures contractor compliance with Eversource standards and procedures.
  • Drive accountable for the safe completion of all work efforts. Sets safety expectations among and between his/her peers.  Resolves safety issues/concerns in an appropriate and timely manner. Communicates safety lessons learned and promotes continuous learning of safe work methods, practices, and procedures.
  • Performs Safety observations to ensure contractor compliance with Eversource safety standards.
  • (On site – oversight) Manages contract field construction and maintenance activities at transmission and distribution facilities in accordance with approved project documents, established engineering practices, Federal, State and local laws, and construction industry standards to achieve world-class field construction performance.
  • Providing daily reports to Construction management on project progress, cost and schedule metrics, procurement issues, safety or environmental concerns, design questions, potential project impacts
  • Attends participates and may lead scheduled project meetings.
  • Reviews project material requirements to identify items that have not been ordered to support the construction project.  Coordinate delivery of materials to construction site.
  • Requests and holds NRA’s.
  • Reviews, requests, and approves written switching instructions and holds clearances.
  • Provides substation escort for non-qualified individuals.
  • Validation of contractor timesheets, invoices, and change orders/change management.
  • Act as a mentor/ trainer to other members of the department.
  • Attend meetings and project updates with customers, as appropriate.
  • Responsible for project reconciliations and close out activities following completion of projects.
  • May be required to work extended hours during certain phases of construction projects.
  • Interfaces with the stakeholder and outreach coordination team so that all non-regulatory commitments are being adhered to by the construction contractors.
  • Support Storm/ERP support as required.
  • Conducts onsite construction briefings and prepares reports reflecting project status, schedule, and project uncertainties.
  • Ensures Project Manager and project team are notified of any deviations in construction safety compliance, environmental compliance, schedule, design, materials, budget, and commissioning plans.
  • Reviews project design and construction documents to ensure constructability and schedule adherence.
  • Participates in project planning, site walk downs, constructability review, and project meetings.
  • Performs Constructability reviews and creates outage sequencing plan.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill: 

  • Must obtain and maintain switching and tagging certification.
  • Must obtain and maintain substation escorting privileges for Type 3 Electrical work.
  • OSHA Training
  • Knowledge of applicable safety regulations and codes along with construction standards and regulations
  • Working knowledge of construction methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of energy delivery power systems
  • The ability to learn and utilize available information technologies

Education/Experience:  

  • High School Diploma or equivalent,
  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, related degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of related construction experience required
  • Experience in Transmission Systems preferred        

Licenses & Certifications:  

  • Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License is required.
