Definition of Class

This position provides assistance to the users of computing and telecommunications equipment, answers inquiries regarding administrative applications (such as SAP), equipment problems or utilizing software packages, operating systems and networking applications. Escalates inquiries to the relevant technical or programming support team for further troubleshooting when necessary. 

 

The Office of Information Technology's Academic Computing team is looking for Computer Support Specialist I for the IT Helpdesk. We are seeking an energetic, customer-oriented IT Professional dedicated to providing high-quality IT support to faculty, staff, and students.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Diagnoses and resolves technical problems, including troubleshooting software, hardware, and network issues promptly and efficiently.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains computer systems and software applications.
  • Performs routine maintenance and updates on computer systems to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Configures new hardware and software, including operating systems and applications.
  • Educates and trains end-users on basic computer operations and best practices for using company software and hardware.
  • Maintains records of all technical support activities, including resolving issues and implementing solutions.
  • Collaborates with the IT team to implement and maintain IT policies, procedures, and security measures.
  • Establishes and maintains in-depth knowledge of IT security principles and best practices
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of computer systems, hardware, and software applications and stays current with the latest technology trends and advancements to provide innovative solutions and improve the overall IT infrastructure.
  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.
     

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  1. Provides technical support and assistance to end-users regarding hardware, software, and network-related issues.
  2. Effectively communicates with University/IT stakeholders to analyze, troubleshoot, and solve technical issues.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED).

 

AND

 

Certification:

Relevant certification (i.e. CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or Microsoft Certified Professional, etc...)  from a market-ready technical program.

 

Substitution Statement: Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
