PURPOSE & PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTION

  • Ensures compliance with US & Canadian customs and federal trade commission regulations for Diesel’s imported goods.
  • Manages the importation and classification of products.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in the day-to-day management over international shipping, customs, deliveries, and invoices, contributing to the overall profitability of the company by managing costs.
  • The focus of this job role is the performance of activities directly related to the running of the operations department supporting areas of purchasing; importation; shipping; vendor management; research; government relations; regulatory compliance; and similar activities.  The above is the primary focus of your job role (comprising 75%, or more, of your work week)

 

JOB DESCRIPTION - CORE ACTIVITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

 

MANAGEMENT

  • Ensures legal compliance requirements are implemented and monitored as it relates to inbound and outbound shipping
  • Manages Inbound Cost Control & Freight Forwarders KPI’s

 

FUNCTIONAL PLANNING

  • Plans of day to day and annual workflow
  • Establishes priorities and objectives.
  • Determines resources and equipment required in function to enable objective achievement.  Submits requests for resources as required.
  • Prepares the Customs Pre-classification while researching binding rulings to ensure proper classification of goods under the Harmonized Tariff System both for US and Canada
  • Monitors and adheres to changes in international trade laws/guidelines.
  • Works closely with Italian counterparts in Headquarters when performing operational activities.
  • Manages freight and customs bills, ensuring charges reflect agreed contractual rates and resolves any deviation.
  • Monitors freight transportation information to improve efficiency, speed, and quality of transportation services.
  • Analyzes the financial impact of proposed logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes or mixes, or carriers.
  • Reviews KPI’s to ensure alignment and support of corporate objectives.
  • Manages imports of ecommerce business between US & CA with Canadian customs and FedEx
  • Liaison with HQ and US on imports of fixtures, furniture etc., for store openings
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager

  • Director North America Operations and Compliance
  • Liaison with domestic and international logistics providers

 

EDUCATION

  • 4 year degree in supply chain management or operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Must have at least 4+ years of Import and Customs Regulations, including Harmonized Tariff Schedule, and Section Notes.
  • Thorough understanding of Import Operations, Claims, Freight Consolidation, Receiving/Shipping Operations
  • Knowledge of FTC (Federal Trade Commission) Regulations
  • Extensive experience in international inbound logistics, including Asia trade lines
  • Vendor management experience
  • Strong analytical skills to identify most efficient and cost-effective solutions and define action plans
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Experience managing large-scale/high volume shipments (500k + units)
  • Experience with supply chain management tools & platforms
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Must be a team player able to multitask
  • Organized & detailed oriented
  • Proactive
  • Proficiency in Excel required
  • Knowledge of Italian a plus
