General Description of the Role

This position is responsible for monthly filing of Excise Tax and Customs reports, ledger reconciliation and ensuring compliance with all Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Kentucky State Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) and government agency (such as Census Bureau) regulations. Through physical audits, the Compliance & Analysis Accountant ensures detailed records are kept throughout the distilling, maturing, blending, bottling and shipping process. The role processes drawbacks claims and calculates taxes to include flavor credits and ensures compliance with all aspects of our registration to include record keeping, formulas, security, equipment and buildings markings. The Compliance & Analysis Accountant is also responsible for on demand filing of accounting-related government agency reports. In conjunction with the Department managers, they are responsible for monthly and annual physical inventories.

 

Key Responsibilities and Activities

 

Quality

  • Provide financial oversight in the field of regulatory compliance for all plant activity, advising the Controller and Facility Director on regulations and revisions in TTB or Kentucky ABC statutes and practices pertaining to facility operations. 

  • Comply with all GMP, ISO and food safety standards related to the facility.

  • Work with Internal Stakeholders to resolve any critical non-compliance issues as defined by the TTB, Kentucky ABC, or member of Facility Management Team.

 

Safety

  • Comply with site safety rules.

  • Comply with prescribed PPE safety requirements for designated work areas.

  • Consistently promote a safe working environment. 

  • Immediately report and properly document any safety items related to you.  Safety items to be reported include but are not limited to bodily injury, near misses, potential dangers, spills and/or any other accidents.

  • Comply with all relevant ISO and food safety standards.  Lead and/or participate in safety meetings as designated.

 

Efficiency

  • Reconciliation of all general ledger tax accounts.

  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of registration throughout the distilling, maturing, blending and bottling process. This includes record keeping, security, equipment and buildings markings and tax filings.

  • Prepare and file all monthly reporting for distilling, maturing, blending, bottling and shipping process including tax filings and in conjunction with Accounts Payable ensures timely payment of taxes.

  • Physical audits of documents and record keeping in the facility.

  • In coordination with the Department managers of Maturing and Logistic, conduct annual physical inventories for barrel and finished goods.

  • Ensure all records and processing related documentation are accurately completed and stored per retention policy on a monthly basis.

  • Ensure monthly inventories are conducted of all processing, bottling and storage tanks in compliance with government records.

  • In conjunction with CTC, optimize tax incentives within the formula.

  • Support in filing the flavors and ingredients eligible for drawback or tax rebate.

  • Ensure government agency reports, compliance or accounting related, are filed correctly and timely

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

Sanitation

  • Consistently maintain a neat and clean overall work area by keeping all materials, supplies, tools and other items in their place.  Implement and sustain 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain).
