Position Summary:
The Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships between Fort Lewis College (FLC) and industry leaders and community organizations. This role focuses on Career Services and workforce (FLC@Work) efforts with the goal of increasing engagement, job postings, internships, recruitment, and offering workforce trainings to community members.Key responsibilities include organizing events, managing outreach programs, and promoting FLC opportunities to students, alumni, and community partners. Additionally, the Coordinator will support the implementation of training programs offered to community members as part of FLC@Work. As a member of the FLC Career and Workforce Team, this position supports lifelong learning for students of all ages and professional backgrounds.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a passion for community engagement, and a commitment to enhancing the skills and employability of both students and community members.

Detail-oriented self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with teams, delegating tasks to team members, and managing multiple projects and priorities
Community Relations 40%
Establish and cultivate relationships with industry leaders, community organizations, Tribal organizations, and alumni (local, regional, national, and remote) through calls, site visits, lunches, association meetings, conferences, etc.
Support implementation of the FLC 2030 Strategic Plan, especially relevant Community Connections accountability measures
Develop and implement strategies designed to increase the number of job and internship opportunities available to the college’s students and alumni
Work closely with the Internship Coordinator to develop internship opportunities and work towards the Strategic Plan’s goal of 90% of students completing an internship
Consult with regional hiring managers to understand their hiring and skill development needs
Increase awareness of and participation in FLC’s workforce initiatives
Conduct outreach activities to recruit participants and ensure diverse community representation
Represent FLC at chamber of commerce events, economic development events, alumni events, and other external functions to promote employer partnerships and networking opportunities
Act as liaison between the Career and Workforce Team and Alumni Relations and Advancement teams to develop opportunities between the community and FLC and ensure a coherent outreach strategy
Program Coordination and Event Planning 30%
Plan and coordinate career fairs, networking events, workshops, and other activities connecting students with potential employers and community resources
Coordinate logistics of workforce trainings for both FLC@Work and Project RUN (a partnership with FLC and the La Plata Economic Development Alliance), including instructor payments, student enrollment, venue arrangements, marketing and outreach, materials and equipment
