About the role
Closing Date: November 26, 2023Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Community & Public Relations Assistant. Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role.Position will be based in Teck Alaska’s Anchorage Office; work schedule will be Monday-Friday 8am-5pm Reporting to the Manager, Community & Public Relations
Responsibilities:
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Promote and ensure a safe work environment and a safety conscious workforce by supporting and following safety initiatives, procedures and activities
- Provide support for the community and public relations, communications, and government relations team
- Support and coordinate, including travel and logistics, regional community engagement activities to enhance regional relationships and awareness of Red Dog’s operation
- Expected to support and provide accurate and timely reports on activities, issues and outcomes to company decision makers
- Support implementation of the Community Relations strategy consistent with company standards and international commitments for the various phases of the Project (i.e. permitting)
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or related discipline preferred
- Three (3) years’ experience in community or public relations preferred but not required
- Excellent communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills and experience of working co-operatively with a broad range of community stakeholders
- Understanding of and experience in the extractives industry and projects, especially mining
- Demonstrated planning, organizing and event coordination experience.
- Rural Alaska logistics planning experience a plus
- Computer skills, with intermediate knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint, applications
- High level of integrity, respect and solutions-focused with a commitment to respectful and inclusive community engagement
- Understanding of the NANA region and/or experience living or working in the region an asset
- Strong organizational skills, work ethic, self-motivated, dependable, and punctual
- Effective oral and written communication skills
