About the role

The Opportunity

The Commercial Counsel role will be responsible for supporting Ulteig’s compliance program, providing intentional legal support, and managing the legal contracts team. This position is part of Ulteig’s Legal, Enterprise Risk, and Compliance Department and reports to the Director of Legal.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage the Ulteig contracts team, provide additional support on questions, assist with workload overflow, and assist with coverage as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Global Talent Expansion Director and serve as the Legal representative on the global expansion team.
  • Collaborate with the Policy Director to consider updates to the program.
  • Collaborate with the risk team to evaluate scenarios impacting the company.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the existing compliance program, including owning the annual compliance training.
  • Review the existing compliance program components and consider ways to evolve these components by leveraging existing technology resources.
  • Lead training and communications to keep leadership and all employees informed of the program evolution.
  • Provide legal advice and support on various international legal matters, such as cross-border transactions, export controls, sanctions, anti-corruption, data privacy, intellectual property, and dispute resolution while working with outside counsel as necessary.
  • Develop and implement legal policies, procedures, and best practices to facilitate the company's international business operations.
  • Stay abreast of relevant legal developments and trends in the regions where the company operates.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.

What We Expect from You

  • JD degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice in at least one US state.
  • 3+ years of broad commercial law required, with demonstrated history working with compliance programs. Preference given to individuals with wider commercial experience, example, commercial contracts and international trade compliance.
  • Experience interacting with and advising senior leadership in organizations.
  • Cultivates own curiosity while concurrently focusing on impact, including leaning into researching unfamiliar laws.
  • Equally comfortable in quantitative and qualitative environments.
  • Communicates regularly, and in clear and compelling ways, adapting appropriately for the environment.
  • Travel > 5% of the time.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an international environment, particularly a global engineering services or professional services preferred.
  • Working knowledge of complex in-house projects, global expansion, evolving programs such as compliance programs, and providing internal education on these issues.
  • Possesses well-rounded knowledge, critical thinking skills, and ability to research and understand international regulations
