Position Summary:
- Inspect and process eggs for incubation, inspect and process chicks, maintain/clean hatchery facility. Other duties may be assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Grade and transfer eggs from pedigree flocks for hatch (10%)
- Tray eggs which consist of observe shell color and texture as well as other external characteristics such as streaks, shadings, discolorations, and size. Transfer eggs by examination of position of yolk, and size of air cell; place hatching eggs in hatch buggies; place broken, dirty or other substandard eggs in container (15%)
- Record data entry of egg and chick information onto touch screen tablet (10%)
- Perform the following sanitation activities: operate tray washer, remove eggshells. Use broom, power washer, scratch pads and squeegee to clean and sanitize setters, hatchers, egg rooms, tables, drains and chick processing areas (20%)
- Participate in hatch process by wing banding chicks, vaccination of chicks using gun to inject vaccine, count chicks. Deliver chicks to Brooding houses. (15%)
- Euthanize selected or substandard chicks by company approved methods of euthanasia. (20%)
- Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as clean hatchery office, break room and restrooms; sanitize vehicles; assist with egg orders. (10%)
Biosecurity/Animal Welfare/Safety Requirements:
- The jobsite is a bio secure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 40 pounds to move items such as tray of eggs, etc.; tools, such as wheeled buggy, may be required to occasionally move up to 1,000 pounds such as egg buggies. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor/padded floor); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; weekly changing of filters and lightbulbs; stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day
