We are on a journey of continuous growth – now looking for our next star – a passionate Co-op Manufacturing Engineer – Machining. This position reports to Manufacturing Engineer - Machining and will work in Vancouver, B.C.
**Please note that this position is open to current students enrolled in a Canadian accredited university and co-op program.
Vancouver:
Dometic Marine’s headquarters are in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. The facility develops and manufactures hydraulic, electronic, and combustion-based products.
As Co-op Manufacturing Engineer – Machining on the Vancouver team, you will be involved in a wide variety of tasks supporting administrative, engineering, and technical staff throughout the facility.
General Responsibilities
- Design and/or improve work holding fixtures and custom equipment for machining processes and in-process inspection.
- Perform root cause investigations for production scrap.
- Assist diagnosis of equipment failures and subsequent repair.
- Perform time studies and identify opportunities to improve machining processes.
- Work with collaborative robots (cobots) to automate tasks in production machining cells.
- Research new manufacturing methods and develop recommendations for improvements.
- Create work standard documents for production machining procedures.
- Assist in programming a factory-wide SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) production management system.
- Update and improve factory layouts, including planning and implementation of CNC machine relocation or new installation projects.
- Represent Dometic while interacting with suppliers and subcontractors to have custom components manufactured.
Dometic performs significant in-house manufacturing of components and assemblies. Machining Engineering Group (MEG) is focused on supporting, maintaining and developing processes for 50+ CNC mills, lathes and grinders. We advise other departments on design for manufacture, then implement the most efficient, cost effective process for machining new components. We still do some design, fabrication and testing of fixturing, production improvements, etc. but not the product itself. A co-op term in MEG offers wide exposure to the entire manufacturing process from raw material to finished components, and a variety of ever-changing tasks; in a factory this big, every day supporting production is different!

Skills & Requirements
- Must be enrolled in an Engineering program at an accredited university
- Solid problem solving and decision-making abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to manage a variety of tasks
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling software: Creo (Pro/E) preferred, Solidworks, CATIA, Inventor or equivalents also valued.
- Proficiency with MS Office programs including: Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint.
- Experience writing code, Python preferred, other programming languages also valued.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Hands-on skills and mechanical aptitude
To be successful in this role, we believe that you possess the following skills, competencies & characteristics:
- Experience with 2D drafting software (AutoCAD, Draftsight).
- Basic knowledge of metal machining theory.
- Prior exposure to precision machining methods and controls, including milling, turning, forming, grinding, heat treating, and machine tool chatter avoidance.
- Prior exposure to precision part measurement with CMM, vision, part contouring, and surface finish measurement systems.
