The purpose of this classification is to assess, maintain, and repair wastewater collection systems for the Consolidated Government's water utility. Supports the Collection Coordinator in the implementation of the CMOM program, as it relates to carrying out both reactionary and preventive measures in maintaining the collection system, within departmental policies and procedures and EPD guidelines. Reports to the Collection Coordinator, or other designated person, and works with co-workers, the public, utility locating services, and management, to provide operational support. PERFORMS 24/7 ROTATING ON-CALL DUTIES.

TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Coordinates daily work activities, organizes and prioritizes project tasks. Makes work assignments and evaluates work, monitors status of work, troubleshoots problem situations, and performs the duties of supervisor in absence of same. Assists the Collection Coordinator in carrying out both reactionary and preventive maintenance measures for the collection system and carrying out CMOM tasks.

Takes the lead with the more technical aspects of the work. Confers with co-workers to assist with complex problems/situations and provides technical expertise as needed. Assists with training and instructing co-workers regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment.

Monitors the work environment and the use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals. Initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations, coordinates setup of work safety zones to maintain safety and traffic control at work sites to include: flagging of traffic, setup of safety cones, barricades, and road/warning signs. Monitors traffic conditions surrounding trucks/equipment to identify obstructions, pedestrians, or unsafe traffic conditions. Reports any incidents, accidents, problems, or unusual situations as needed.

Operates and maintains rodder trucks, crawler/pole camera, push camera, metal detector, vactor, various hand tools, or other equipment necessary to complete essential functions. Cleans and washes equipment and tools, performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs as needed. Notifies supervisor of needed equipment replacements and repairs.

Receives and completes work orders. Diagnoses problems and determining remedial actions; gathers tools and equipment needed to complete work activities; picks up and transports equipment, tools and supplies; notifies customer of findings; and completes or creates follow-up work orders as needed.

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MIGHT INCLUDE:
- Responds to sewer back up calls within one hour of receiving a call.
- Reviews work orders daily and communicates regularly with the Asset Manager regarding necessary field data to be incorporated into GIS
- Conducts manhole evaluation routes, as directed by supervision, to enhance collection maintenance activities
- Performs preventive maintenance tasks when directed by supervision, so as to establish proficiency in such work and pave the way for advancement
- Looks for ways to enhance maintenance efforts and make them more efficient
Required minimum qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or GED
Experience: Four (4) years of experience in assessing, maintaining and repairing wastewater collection systems for the Consolidated Government's water utility.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all Consolidated Government or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
