Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.

CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi, and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.

The Clinical Placement Assistant works closely with students and clinical institutions to establish clinical rotations for nursing student educational training. Interfaces directly with the Clinical Placement Manager or designees to facilitate students’ clinical experiences as defined by the BRN-approved ELM/FNP plans of study.

·       Assist in identifying, recruiting, and touring new clinical/practicum agency student placement sites.

·       Negotiates clinical schedules with existing clinical sites and develops the rotation schedules.

·       Collaborates with agency staff, CDU administration, and staff to maintain currency in all clinical institution contractual agreements.

·       Assist with identifying potential student learning experiences in clinical/practicum sites.

·       Interacts with clinical agencies to plan for and schedule student group clinical or individual senior clinical practicum preceptor rotations.

·       Conducts on-site visits to clinical institutions each semester in collaboration with ELM/FNP Program Directors.

·       Attends required meetings at clinical affiliation agencies in collaboration with ELM/FNP Program Directors.

·       Attends selected professional community meetings and recruitment job fairs as assigned.

·       Schedules and notifies students and clinical faculty regarding the clinical orientations for each student clinical group each semester.

·       Collaborates with Site Coordinator and Clinical Professors to evaluate clinical sites.

·       Serves as a resource and support person for Clinical Adjunct Professors.

·       Assist in organizing the annual evaluation process of the ELM/FNP faculty and program preceptors.

·        In collaboration with the Program Directors, manages student clinical placement issues as appropriate.

·       Assign faculty and students to clinical facilities in collaboration with the ELM/FNP Program Directors.

·       Accept and organize all ELM program concerns from faculty, staff, and students for the ELM Program Director under MMDCON policies.

·       Serves as the liaison for ELM/FNP recruitment to the CDU admissions office.

EDUCATION:

·       Regionally accredited bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience.

EXPERIENCE:

·       At least two years of experience working with students and faculty in a college or university setting required.

·       Two years of administrative and clerical experience desired.

·       Knowledge of current developments, trends, and complexities within nursing and the healthcare industry.
