Invitae, part of Labcorp, is looking for a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor to join its team in San Francisco, CA. This position will be responsible for overseeing the operations and administration of the clinical extraction and production laboratories. Additionally, the Laboratory Supervisor will create, implement, and manage the policies, procedures and practices for optimal performance of the molecular diagnostic laboratory. The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor will also assist in day to day lab work at the bench. The schedule for this position will be: 2nd shift, Tuesday-Saturday, 3pm-1130pm.
Responsibilities:
- Direct the daily operational activities of the extraction and production laboratories; both the technical and non-technical operations
- Effectively manage the staffing of the department and monitor the production schedule to ensure adequate coverage and proper use of overtime, and adjust as needed
- Directly supervisor, train, and mentor laboratory staff and have ownership and responsibility for all departmental staff
- Assist the team in day to day laboratory work
- Ensure the diagnostics laboratory provides service levels, meeting the needs of our clients through established metrics for TAT and Quality
- Resolve operational issues promptly by consulting with the operational leadership, such as production support, Medical Director, QA, other laboratory managers, laboratory directors. Etc.
- Ensure laboratory is compliant with corporate, state, and federal regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, State, OSHA, etc) related to personnel safety, hazardous waste, and quality of laboratory testing as well as professional conduct
- Assist with developing and implementing laboratory procedures and installation of equipment and methods
- Assist with tech transfer/assay launches and validations
- Manage staff including recruiting & hiring qualified and enthusiastic employees, performance management, training, and development
- Ensure effective communication with leadership, as well as direct reports and all departmental staff
- Conduct departmental meetings and ensure appropriate departmental communication
- Investigate deviations from established procedures to ensure effective corrective action
- Ensures team member accountability and corrective action for errors and alerts that happen on shift
- Assist with CAPAs and RCAs to ensure comprehensive and complete action is taken to remediate
- Escalate equipment issues that impact TAT or quality to leadership to assist in timely resolution
- Oversee and advise on quality control and quality assurance activities.
- Identify training gaps and coordinate with leadership and Training team to iterate on improvements
- Ensure competencies are completed 100% on time, and assist with assessments as needed by the training team
- Identify lab ware/consumable issues (to include shortages or failures) in coordination with Supply Chain and escalates appropriately.
- Monitor team safety and ensure adherence to PPE requirements
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Requirements:
- B.A./B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, or relatable life science
- Current CA CLS Generalist or CGMBS License required
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a high complexity CLIA laboratory required. 6 years experience preferred
- Prior supervisory experience managing direct reports
- Previous experience working in a molecular diagnostics laboratory, including NGS technologies highly preferred
- Working knowledge of CLIA, CAP and relevant state regulations
- Proven success in training and developing both technical and non-technical employees
- Experience in a high-volume clinical laboratory environment highly desired
- Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems, Google Suite, Jira, and Microsoft Office
- Ability to lift up to 25+ Ibs
