Job Description
AECOM has a position available for an early career Climate Adaptation Engineer / Junior Planner who has a passion for promoting climate change preparedness through engineering and design across disciplines (flood protection, stormwater, wastewater, transportation, environment, and urban planning). In this early career role this person will support coastal science, engineering, and adaptation projects for local, state, and federal clients, primarily in one of the offices located in Orlando, Miami, or Tampa, Florida and possibly across the nation. This is a hybrid work-model requiring a minimum of 2-3 days per week in the office.
The responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Carry out supervised work as part of a team of engineers, scientists, GIS specialists, and sustainability planners in support of climate change adaptation and resilience assessments in coastal and estuarine environments
- Conduct coastal, riverine, and stormwater related analyses, modeling, and design
- Participate in planning, design, and engineering of solutions for coastal environments
- Conduct planning, engineering, design, and monitoring of coastal engineering, shoreline restoration, coastal zone management, and port and harbor studies and projects
- Collect and analyze data and identify trends, opportunities, and carry out design of engineering and other solutions for climate-related issues on coastal and other projects
- Performs standard scientific and/or engineering work requiring application of techniques and procedures
- Attend regional client meetings at their site or location
- Conducts specific phases of projects for more experienced scientists and engineers
- Proposes appropriate analytical methods and techniques
- Assists in providing advice and consulting services within scope of scientific knowledge
- Draws conclusions and makes recommendations based on analysis
- Contribute to climate change studies that involve sea level rise analysis, coastal erosion and shoreline change, vulnerability and risk assessments, and adaptation planning
- Prepare information, reports, drawings, calculations, presentations, and models to support the team’s development of innovative solutions to enhance coastal resilience ranging from traditional shoreline protection measures to nature-based adaptation strategies

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- BA/BS plus 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Relevant experience should include 2+ years’ experience in Coastal Science, Coastal Engineering, Climate Adaptation or a related field
